Is esim only available for subscription pack, not for pay as you go?

I would like to know if I want to change sim to esim,do I need to change my Pay as you go to subscription pack plans?Thank you

Did you manage to get this sorted? I’m having exactly the same problem with replacing my sim after my phone was stolen. It’s been 2 says now and sim still has no service.
