Fibre 100, or is it ?

We changed the service to Fibre Max 100, still with EE. The line seems to be running around 107Mbps but the Think Broadband site suggests we should get 145-160Mbps on this service. Who is right here?

The installation was by Openreach, did they set us up right?

They don't set it at 10% more, that's Virgin Media.

@XRaySpeX So I asked and EE say there is no ALID on FTTP lines...

Then try for your UPRN. Failing that use your addy.

@XRaySpeX and anyone following this. I've been back to EE and they say I am getting the right speed. Their quoted speed of average 145Mbps is to the cabinet and not to the premises...? (does not make sense on FTTP)

I've looked at https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/broadband-and-landline/home-broadband/how-can-i-improve-my-broadband-... and the table at the bottom is the confusing bit. I have the same from https://www.thinkbroadband.com/isps/everythingeverywhere/packages/fibre-max-1-broadband where it suggests a speed of 160Mbps on this product, to give an average 145Mbps.

We are FTTP on WBC FTTP 220, so should get the higher speed I would have thought, it is fully Fibre, no copper to the home. I've been told we are capable of Fibre Max 900 if I want it. There is no loss on the line as with FTTC where it would be affected by distance for example.

It was worth asking as I'm a Yorkshire man and want my moneys worth! 😀 If I should be on 160Mbps with average 145 Mbps then I'd expect that, in my mind.

@XRaySpeX  Andrew at Think Broadband thinks this should be based on the current rate of Up to 115Mbit/s / 20Mbit/s,  not the 160Mbps rate they originally had from EE. Seems to make sense when you have the facts.

The actual speed coming into the home is  2.4 Gbps (2400 Mbps) download speed and then is capped based on the product EE order from Openreach.

Both those articles are discussing the capped G.Fast product Fibre Max 100 which has a technical max speed of 165 Meg. You have the FTTP variant of that for which EE mimics the G.Fast product.

@XRaySpeX I'm just quoting what Andrew said. It was in direct email, not the TB Forums. I am tmcr on there. You've replied there but I usually come here for answers.

EDIT: I did mention he says it was 2400 to the premises, so not discussing G.Fast.

OP,

EE Fibre 100 (FTTP) is provisioned by Openreach at 160/30Mbps, so you should getting around 140-150 Mbps in actual throughput. If you're not getting these speeds anytime at all, then there's definitely an issue somewhere. But I would first do a test at the ONT with your PC using a PPPoE connection. If you still cannot get ~ 150 Mbps on your PC when connected to the ONT, then you need to call EE support again. My suspicion is that Openreach or BT Wholesale have put some sort of artificial cap wrongly on the line, however a circuit rebuild (reset) should easily fix this, But don't let EE Support fob you off!
