GB News App crashing

Having real problems watching GB News…

all the other apps work fine, Netflix, Prime, I don’t have an issue with any of them, except GB News, after about 10 minutes it freezes and the only way to sort the problem out is to exit out of the app and then start it again, it doesn’t seem to be buffering as it never sorts itself out, it always requires my intervention to exit out and start again.

I’m not interested in any other news channel so that’s not a solution, anyone know how this can be fixed?

Thanks for the update here @DJ7vickers, if this is totally freezing up rather than buffering then it may not necessarily be down the connection.

Have you checked to make sure all your software and apps are fully up to date on each box?

If you haven't already it can be worth trying a light reset too.

EXACTLY the same is happening to me. Only git installed last week & it's an absilute nightmare!!

I'm only getting an average of two minutes before it freezes 😡

Hi @MollyB30

Welcome to the community.

Is it just the GB News app that you are seeing this on, or is it impacting other apps as well?

I have this issue too. The tech people have sent me an updated router and powerline adaptors - neither have solved the problem. Maybe the problem is to do with the GB News set up? I have no tech knowledge to suggest this but maybe EE can investigate.  My solution is to switch to my Amazon Fire TV Stick. This works, but the point is what am I paying EE for. Do EE bother to check the "community" and investigate problems.

@kcc110

Yes indeed, what are you paying EETV for? If all you ever watch is the GBNews app, and it doesn’t work, and you have it on your Firestick, then you don’t need EETV at all, so why pay for it.

But is this actually the case?

I did not say "all I watch is the GB News app". My BT broadband contract was due for renewal and this is what I ended up with. Do you know if EE are likely to follow up on this problem?

@kcc110

I trust that you realised that my tongue was in my cheek, in reminding you that your subscription covers other services that do work, and which you also use 😛

And we might well hope that there are enough reports of this problem that members of the EE Support Team have been made aware of to start an investigation within EETV.

Though a formal complaint to EETV, from a customer such as yourself, might help to seal the deal.

After that, though, it gets a bit Byzantine. The app is supplied to EETV by YouView, so they will have to get involved, but it isn’t written by them, so they will have to get in touch with GB News to get their app developers on the case. Though at least GB News hold themselves out as the developers of the app, without yet another company involved.

Hopefully, you can help break the logjam by going direct to GB News, as well as to EETV, to get some action going on this.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I thought it was something of the Byzantine nature you mentioned. And  I will try and take it up elsewhere. Incidentally,  I also have a Now TV box as well as the Fire TV Stick. They were bought some years ago and although there is considerable overlap between the three devices they all have (or had) their unique points. There is also just watching via Freeview, when the weather does not affect the signal. For the moment I think that when switching on GB News I will go to the Fire TV Stick. That is not said with any "cattiness" but to lessen the likelihood of a freeze mid-sentence. EETV for Discovery plus cricket from New Zealand.

@kcc110

Indeed yes, horses for courses. We like Sky News, but not the SD channel that is all that Freeview provides. So we use the app, but the News section of it always times out on our bedroom LG C2 (though it’s fine on the lounge GX).

We’ve told LG, and we’ve even contacted the developer directly, but no fix as yet. So we watch it on the Sky News app on our Apple TV. Not cattiness but canniness 😛
