EE app on the go

Having moved to EE from Sky I have taken on the Full Works package. My question relates to the EE app. Have loaded it to my iPad but would appear when away from home on a different network I cannot view any live tv channels, just states to tune to channel x on my set box. With Sky Go you use to be able to view the whole package when away from home. Am I missing something or is it the EE app just not do this?

The EE app doesn't let you watch live channels apart from TNT sports, discovery channel or Asian channels depending on what TV subscription you have.

You will need to download catch up apps and the Now app separately.

That’s not good really was hoping to be able to watch full package on the one app. Looks like EE need to enhance their app to match the Sky one.

They weren't allowed to include live streams to many channels. Probably down to cost or conflicts of interest between Youview and Freely.

There's a complex relationship between EE and youview and youview support Freely.

It's not a cost or conflict of interest thing - it's just a contractual thing. We don't have permission to stream the channels in our app - content providers would prefer that you use their apps. There they can then show you ads, or promote other content they want you to see, or even just get more statistics about your viewing habits so that they can make better informed decisions.

There is also a legal aspect to it, where the Communications Act 2003 and Media Act 2024 can have a big impact on what apps are allowed to do, if they include non-subscription channel streaming.

And yes, I know other providers can show them, although they're also becoming more restricted as time goes on - as channels realise the value of having their own apps and controlling their content.

@DarrenDev I also remember that you had said that  you weren't even allowed to link to the PSB app channel streams (where it would open the iPlayer app for example and go to a particular channel) from the EE TV app when EE TV first launched, but the Amazon fire stick live TV guide now allows for this as an example.

You had said a couple of weeks ago that the EE TV app was being redeveloped so it will be interesting to see what comes out of that.
