Tried calling the EE Help Desk form landline, nice lady says choose option 1 or 2....does not accept 1 or 2 and keeps going round in circles !

Which number did you use?
0330 123 1105 works OK for me.

@LFHFC_ONLY : I think the OP is saying the pulse-dialled IVR option nos. are not working, not that they phoned the wrong no.

Yep, dialled that number. Problem since moving to the home digital phone service. works okay with some services but ironically not EE
