My sim is not working. I can’t receive or make calls

Hi I need to activate my sim but it sending the code to activate it to the number I need activating as this number was on an o2 sim which is now inactive so I am unable to get the code 

New SIM - put new in and activated - no bars no signal at all

I had a new SIM as signal was bad on old one, now I have no bars no signal at all / can’t make any calls or receive any calls?

Inactive sim

I cancelled my ee contract as I moved country but wanted to keep my number active for when I visit the UK however my phone does not recognise my number. Is there a way to activate it?
