5G has been around for nearly 5 years now but they still don't provide it for PAYG. It's baffling given all the MVNO's do for much less. They're the only operator to throttle 5G for pay monthly too.

@pcfidelity Didn’t know EE where obligated to offer a certain connection type to any customer. What are you hoping to do over 5G that 4G isn’t going to cut it.
EE sells contracts that are not speed limited you just pay more for the privilege. But then again you purchase what you want and I can bet the vast majority of customers who choose unlimited speed do so because they don’t actually know what they need and just think unlimited is better. 100Gbs is plenty fast enough especially when the average fix line broadband connection was 69.4 in 2023 in the UK.

They are by no means "the only operator to throttle 5G for pay monthly", I believe VF actually beat them to this considerably with their standard "Unlimited" plans being capped at 10Mbps before EE ever started doing it. Makes it sound like the default but is actually quite barebones.
At least with EE, they didn't start doing this until much later and the plan names make it relatively obvious with "No Frills" coming across as a barebones connection with 10Mbps cap for basic usage.
"Essentials" being enough for most people with a cap of 100Mbps for streaming etc and then "All Rounder" and "Full Works" being the plans for those needing a faster and better connection for doing more with uncapped speeds, network prioritisation and 5G Standalone.
You pay for what you need.

@Matt_124 : "No Frills", "Essentials", "All Rounder" and "Full Works" are not PAYG which OP is on about. They are all contract plans & are all 5G compatible.

Yes i know. The OP spoke about/made claims around EE's speed capping of 5G plans on Pay Monthly in his post also @XRaySpeX, i was clarifying and giving context to that point .

- Our new Data Add - ons in Pay as you go
- EE Store selling poor options to OAP parents in Contracts & Billing
- Does EE hate PAYG customers? in Pay as you go
- Free data or call boosts are pointless if you have monthly unlimited package in Pay as you go
- Appalling service - PAYG not delivered, can't contact anyone to cancel in Pay as you go
