do I lose my number if I don't have an active subscription

I'm currently living abroad but want to keep my phone number as I've had it for years and is linked to several accounts like my WhatsApp so if I stopped my monthly subscription pack would I still be able to keep my number? Or do I have to have active monthly payments to keep it? Please let me know if anyone has the answer to this as it would be much appreciated 🙂

@tombarnes  Your best off stopping the pack and only putting credit on your account.  Then once every 2 months make a chargeable call/text to keep the sim active and so keeping your number.

I can confirm the above works. One text every 2 or 3 month keeps the account active
