I am currently in Mexico and have found out that my plan doesn’t seem to cover roaming here, I desperately need to receive a text code to log in to a separate website, I have purchased 100 global text from ee two days ago but I’m still seeing no networks, tried turning the phone off, no joy. Any ideas?

try logging into your MyEE account online & go to Menu > Account Settings > Parental and Data Controls > Roaming Abroad and also Call Abroad and Premium Rate. They will show as ticked if roaming and calling abroad is activated. If they are not ticked, can you activate these settings?

Hello @Mexicon

Thanks for coming here.

If you do not have roaming enabled on your account please log in to your EE app and speak with our Live Chat team.

The Live Chat option can be found in the 'Help' section of the app.

The Roam Abroad Pass can also cover you whilst you are abroad in Mexico, for more information on this please visit this page HERE, this will allow you to use your UK allowances.

@jimmyb1000 : You won't find the settings you refer to. They were withdrawn some time ago. You are copying MY old post.

Are you on contract or PAYG? Had you used that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before you left UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Otherwise you need to call CS to get your roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. on Skype over WiFi. It should be free.

Can’t call CS, no network coverage

Then follow my suggestion re: Skype.

Regardless of any billing add-on, your ability to get coverage abroad (which calls, texts & mobile data rely on) is dependent on roaming being activated - which allows your phone to connect to foreign networks.

On PAYG, this is auto-enabled once your phone is used in the UK first.
On pay-monthly, this needs to be enabled manually - usually by texting ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK.

If you now find yourself abroad without having enabled roaming, your only recourse will be to contact CS to request it activated. You can either contact +44 7953 966150 from another working phone, or +44 800 0798586 using a web-calling app such as Skype over WiFi.

I am traveling in Mexico and have neglected to check whether roaming was activated on my account before I left, silly I know but now I’m here that doesn’t help. I can’t believe that in this day and age there is no way of turning on the roaming once you are abroad. I spent a full ( very frustrating)day yesterday trying to sort this out with no result , I have even purchased an e-sim at great cost but, surprise surprise that doesn’t work either because roaming has to be activated with your provider in order for it to work. I can get Wi-Fi and you would think surely I can sort it out over the internet…..Nope! I have Wi-Fi calling on but am still unable to connect to the overseas number, there no longer seems to be a text chat option available, I have even considered using the sign language option because that seems to be the only way to get in touch over the inter internet, surely not! how daft is that 😳🙄. Write to us they said, ha ha , you have to send a letter! Really! Are you sure?!! No email option at all for f**ks sake. That’s it I’m done with EE, cancelling as soon as I get home🤬

@Mexicon  wi-Fi calling is just a means to give you a working signal when you have no or poor signal it is not a means to communicate from overseas as it would occur roaming costs plus the fact that Wi-Fi calling is only available within the UK and not overseas.    You can use live chat via the app.     Not sure what you mean you've purchased an eSim at great cost.  EE don’t sell eSims its an activation process to move your EE number from a physical sim to the device Electronic Sim ( eSim)

If you’ve purchased an eSIM from a local carrier, then that has nothing to do with EE or roaming on your device as you’re using the local network and you don’t need to activate anything on your EE account to enable roaming as your not roaming when using a local network with a local network sim/eSim.

there is no email option as emails are too slow to deal with customer issues.
