Smart Hub 7 Plus Port Forwarding Issue

Hi All,

Another Issue with the Hub 7 Plus, probably on others too.

When i create a Port forwarding rule, it always comes up with an error and doesn't save or eventually when it does save, it has created duplicate rules. Try to remove one and it removes both, aaarrrgghh! These EE hub are very frustrating.

I hope someone who can help sees this and my other post, to help fix these issues.

Hi,  I've taken some screen shots of the Hub 2 manager firewall and the Hub 7 Plus manager firewall.  Switching back to the Hub 7 Plus it's so slow and clunky and it produces error messages when things seem to time out.  EE that was such a bad decision with the Hub 7.  Back to the screen shots.  I’ve tried playing with all sorts of setting and nothing seems to work unless DMZ is enabled.

This screen shot is from Hub 2 and works as intended.

This next screen is from Hub 7 Plus and this does not work at all.

Any clues as to why the EE Hub 7 Plus does not work?

@SamyM What Ethernet port is the WD connected to on the back off your Hub 7 Plus, the 2.5Gb or one off the 1Gb ports?

Hi, it’s connected to a Gb ethernet switch unmanaged.  I have tried connecting it direct to the back of the router on the 1 Gb and the 2.5Gb and it makes no difference.  Ports are not open when checking (https://www.yougetsignal.com/).  It’s like the router is not complying with my instructions.  Enabling DMZ it all works.  But that's not a good idea.

Currently my setup at home I have removed all the telephone cables/lines in the house and converted to Cat6 cable to 2 Gb ethernet switches unmanaged in the attic.  So every room has now 2 ethernet sockets including the hall and the Kitchen.  On the landing I have setup a Gb dual band WIfi 6 transmitter POE and the same in the kitchen.  Where I need more than 2 ethernet port in a room I have placed a 5 port Gb ethernet switch.  So, the router sends 2 ethernet ports straight to my attic running 2 ethernet switches that spread connections to the whole house.  Currently with the EE Hub 2 its work amazing.  Wifi is great and no blind spots and where I need to stream to my WD Clouds the speed is great via PCs and TV including Wifi.  Connecting in the front and back garden is also excellent.

Just does not work with the EE Hub 7 Plus when I want port forwarding.  Ignoring the port forwarding issue the EE Hub 7 plus works great, and I don’t need the range extender provided.  Noticed the Hub 7 manager is very slow, and poor compared to the Hub 2.  You would think it would be the other way.

@SamyM Cannot comment on the web Manager Interface to the new EE Smart Hub 7 Plus version you need someone who is using to see what the response is like with it, on the Ethernet side off things is the unit getting the same IP from the DHCP of both the BT/EE hubs, and you know that for sure, have you tried to go set it so it is Fixed ip as always in the EE Hub that appears to be 192.168.1.155 on the Hub2 posted picture. Think i have a sample for the old 6 plus as a picture will go look and see. Although the edited picture is showing wireless devices, all wireless/wired are set as static IP's in the control.

Set as static for ALL devices.Set as static for ALL devices.

@SamyM - if you click that 'Show IP address' button on the 7 Plus screen, what IP is associated with the port forwarding rule? Does it definitely match the IP assigned to the target device/WD in the list of network devices as shared by @JimM11?

On the 7 Plus, you have some UPnP rules that have a '0' end port which looks a little unusual. Unsure if this could cause any problems but it might be worth finding out the device that's creating those rules and temporarily remove it from your network. Alternatively, you could try disabling UPnP in the Advanced Firewall settings to see if it has any positive impact. You shouldn't need to do this, but I'm fast running out of ideas.

Hi, Not sure where these definitions come from, but when I do a reset of the router Hub 7 Plus they appear automatically, It’s the router creating them not me.  I’m doing the FTP and the http.  The others seem to be created when I reset the hub.  The IP address for the FTP and http I know match the WD EX2 IP address.  The other 2 wasn't sure about them so thought leave them alone.  Didn't check the others.  What do you think?  Try and delete them and see if that resolves the issue?

I imagine those are empheral ports created by UpNP from somedevice on your network. Do you know which app/device is creating them? Turning UpNP off would stop them being generated,  but I can't see how that impacts your port forwarding issue. As I my previous post from a while back, I had similar port forwarding issues with 80 and 443, that I eventually resolved by factory reset and starting over. You appear to have done that several times, and still can't see port 25 fron the Internet. Assuming you domain is pointing at your network external address correctly,  and it all works on old hub, I'm at a loss

How are you setting your domain to point at your network, ddns via dynu or equivalent?  Is that the same method used with old hub?

Hi, Strange but they don't get created when I'm connected to the EE Hub 2.

Hmm, assume upnp is on for hub 2? I don't get any "phantom" forwarding rules on my hub 7. Very odd

What happens if you turn of upnp and reboot, are they still there?

I cant see from the screenshot but do the mystery port forwarding rules not show the ip address of the originating device.?
