Smart Hub 7 Plus Port Forwarding Issue

Hi All,

Another Issue with the Hub 7 Plus, probably on others too.

When i create a Port forwarding rule, it always comes up with an error and doesn't save or eventually when it does save, it has created duplicate rules. Try to remove one and it removes both, aaarrrgghh! These EE hub are very frustrating.

I hope someone who can help sees this and my other post, to help fix these issues.

When I get a second, I'll try setting up an FTP server on my SH35A but I've a sneaking feeling it will probably work as my other port forwarding rules seem OK...

Managed to get round to this and it's as I suspected...

Configured a forwarding rule for TCP port 21 and pointed it to a machine with an FTP server listening: -

Screenshot 2026-02-18 19.04.06.png
Then used a laptop connected to the EE mobile network to try FTP'ing to the FTP server from the Internet: -

bob@penguin:~$ ftp bobpullen@[REDACTED]
Connected to [REDACTED].
220 Rebex FTP Server ready.
331 Password required for 'bobpullen'.
Password:
230 User 'bobpullen' logged in.
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp>

So whatever the problem, I'm struggling to replicate it with my 7 Plus 🤔

@bobpullen : I can see your image but can't read the main text. All I can read is an innocuous local IP but for some reason it has been rejected. Does something need obscuring or has someone been trigger-happy?

@XRaySpeX - all it exposes is the local IP of the machine running my FTP server, which isn't sensitive 🤷

There's a big chunk of unrelated rules in the middle that I intentionally blurred out as I'd rather they weren't published.

OK, @bobpullen , I'm gonna override the rejection.

Hi, Got all the latest firmware on the EE Hub 7 Plus, still port forwardiing does not work.  EE still have issues with the router firmware, port forwardiing does not work at the moment.  What a mess.

@SamyM who knows, what are you doing in you setup, have you done the secret connect to make sure the Hub has the info stored before you save etc?

Hi, Just setting up port 21 for port forwarding for my WD EX2 ULtra Cloud, like I always have done.  Except now as the EE Hub 7 Plus does not work with port forwarding when I check with the WD My Cloud and when I check on https://www.yougetsignal.com/

So at the moment reverted back to the EE Hub 2.

Whats the secret connect?

@SamyM : You need to 1st press the '+' to the R of the rule before it becomes operative. Then you can "Save" it.

HI,  Yes, I do click on the '+' to add the rule.

Phoning EE gets you nowhere all they do is reset the router and/or reboot. Then you are back to configuring again and going round and round in circles.  There is an underlying issue with the EE Hub 7 Plus router and untill EE except that then we are not going to get anywhere with this issue.

@SamyM - Perhaps you can share screenshots of your settings comparing the Hub 2 to the 7 Plus? It would also be useful to see the internal IP 192.168... IP address that you're forwarding to. Note that the WD EX2 may not have the same internal IP address when connected to the 7 Plus as it does the Hub 2.

As per my last post, I have successfully forwarded port 21 traffic using a 7 Plus so I'm assuming it can't be a widespread issue 🤔
