EE Smart Hub Plus poor range and connection strengh compared to BT Smart Hub 2

Monaco24

Our BT broadband contract came to an end so we've moved fully to EE now and been sent out an EE Smart Hub Plus to replace our BT Smart Hub 2. There seems to be a considerable reduction in range with the new EE box and an unstable or poor wifi connection in parts of the house that were fine with the BT box. All in all it feels like a downgrade, has anyone else had similar issues with the EE boxes?

I'm tempted just to send it back and stick with the older BT box but not sure if that will cause any issues down the line..

Thanks

My new Fibre Broadband hub doesn’t provide the stable connection to all my devices in all my rooms - it’s only a flat - that my Bb hub did. What can I do?

@BerryB1 Is it just a new hub you got, new fibre service? Is the hub centrally located? Also help below may be useful.

Yes it was installed on Thursday. I am so disappointed and dissatisfied - the range is too far too short.

@BerryB1 Please explain, was it a new fttp fibre install you had?

Yes, but it is not central like the BT one was.

@BerryB1 Then that is the problem, the installer has a criteria that they follow, i stopped my install 3 weeks ago, because i said to the installer, your having a laugh with what you want to do, he said no i will run the cable from the back of the house all along the outside to the front, i said NO you won't, that's not happening, and called a halt to it all. The position of the router REALLY matter's unless you want to spend some more money there may be another solution. See below first...

Choice now is the cable from the EE router to the ONT, Ethernet, is it possible for you to get the Router moved to were your BT was situated, and this requires longer cable from point A to B, only you can tell....

Oh I wish I had called a halt. I don’t think it’s going to be possible to run a cable all the way from where it currently is to my old BT hub installation. I would like to simply ‘turn the clock back’ and forget full fibre. I wasn’t unhappy with my speed.

@BerryB1 Do you only require to have a wireless wifi signal further to your problem area, were the router is just now, are you happy with the signal at that point. NO ethernet required anywhere?

What is ‘Ethernet’. The signal from the new Router is ok in my sitting room, where it is. But it just doesn’t function in my bedroom.

@BerryB1 Ethernet is the cable, where you would connect a wire to a laptop/PC etc, if everything is wireless then you could look at the TP-Link RE700/600/500X range, speed high/low, price is according to the range, Place it probably where you router from BT was, and it will extend the wifi out further. Have a look on amazon etc.

Some packages from EE allow to have there extender, but think it is from all rounder onwards were they are free. So check what you have package wise from them, and if new you will have the SH32B router from EE, label will be on the bottom or the packaging box.
