Re: New pay as you go packs

My elderly mother has been with EE for several years, really happy with her £5 Pack. About a month ago her phone broke, as she wasn't using it I cancelled her pack. I've finally persuaded her to splash out on a new phone only to find the £5 pack is no longer available. She doesn't want to pay £10, she never used to use all her minutes / data as it was so hardly needs more. 100MB data, 100 mins and 100 texts is plenty.

Are there any lesser options like this for the elderly?

Is there any way she can continue with the £5 pack as she's been an EE customer for a while now?

Hi @Lesley34

Welcome to the community 😊

I know how important it is to make sure you have the best pack for your needs when on PAYG.

We have a New Pay As You Go Packs article that explains what packs we offer at the moment. If she doesn't use much data we have a talk focused pack that gives you 10MB, 100 minutes, 200 texts.

Thanks.

Chris.

@Lesley34 : Except the £1 Talk Pack lasts only 7 days. However you could get 4 of those in succession for £4 to last nearly the 30 days.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

Well yes I saw that on the Pack info page, but 10MB a week isn't enough, in fact it only last a day even though mum wasn't knowingly using data - so that's a non starter.

Really can't believe that with a growing elderly population - who need phones to be safe - that there isn't a small package, 100MB, 100 mins and 100 texts would be just perfect.

I've already set her up on the £1 packs, but the 10MB of data barely lasts a day, even though she's not knowingly using data, I guess it's just stuff in the background. She only uses it for the weather and whatsapp - and even then only occasionally, not even daily.

In fact, this that right - do you know - 10MB should last the week shouldn't it?

Is there anyway I can stop the text messages about the packs popping up on her phone? It confuses and frightens her. (I know that sounds pathetic, she's nearly 80, seriously, it's a problem!) It's not just one message, there's a warning message to say it's about to end, one saying it's ended and one saying the new one has started.

And of course, if she continues with this £1 weekly pack, although the price is good, weekly means she gets all these messages weekly instead of monthly *heaves big sigh*

Hi @Lesley34,

10MB is a relatively small amount of data and could quite easily be used in one day if the phone is receiving weather updates and messages/media via WhatsApp. As well as those two services you mentioned, other apps on the phone and the phone itself may be using data to receive updates.

If you'd like some help with only allowing certain apps to access mobile data, please let us know the make and model of the phone.

Sorry, it isn't possible to opt out of the automated usage reminder texts.

James

Hi @James_B@XRaySpeX and @Christopher_B  - just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to reply to me. Sorry, I'm not overly familiar with how 'communities', typing in this box, it's easy to forget I'm speaking to real people!

@James_B the phone is a Galaxy A02 - it would be helpful if you could let me know how to only allow certain apps to access the data perhaps I can make 10MB work. (She doesn't have WIFI at home, updates are set to only update on WIFI, ie at my house). Data Savers Button is on.

Thank you
