Re: EE TV out of sync and sound issues

I have the same problem. I've just started using a TV Pro box. I watch it streaming everything via WiFi.  I use HDMI from the tv box to a sound bar then HDMI to my TV. It seems everything I watch has the sound lagging the video. The Pro box has the option to delay the sound feed but this only makes the problem worse. The only solution I found was to switch the Pro box sound from "surround " to "stereo ' . Not a great solution when I have an ATMOS capable sound bar.  At a guess I'd say the chip set in the box is not up to the job of dealing with sound anything other than basic stereo.

Hey @Oldwobbler.

Welcome to the EE Community 😊

I've moved your posts over into their own single thread so everything is in one place, but let's get this checked out.

Do you know if your TV and Soundbar support HDMI eArc?

If they do, I'd recommend using an HDMI between the eArc port on your TV and the soundbar.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the reply.

I currently have the TV Pro box as my only source. This is cabled to my soundbar via HDMI and the soundbar is processing both video and sound. The output of the soundbar is cabled to my TV using HDMI ARC. The TV is only dealing with video, no sound. The sound is dealt with between the TV Pro box and the soundbar (HDMI). The soundbar just passes on video to the TV.  There is a definite lag between what the TV shows and what the soundbar produces. (the sound is lagging the video). If I switch the TV Pro box between "surround" and "stereo" the problem disappears. The use of the ARC port on the TV wont make any difference as the TV is not dealing with sound.

Thanks.

@Oldwobbler

Just as a test, try plugging the Box Pro into the TV instead of the soundbar, and seeing what this does to the audio sync, in both Surround and Stereo modes.

Leave the HDMI cable between the TV and the soundbar in place, to pass across ARC or eARC. (And it would be useful to know if the TV and soundbar, respectively, can do eARC or only ARC; if both are eARC, then how the Box Pro is connected is personal preference, but if you only have ARC, then your instinct to put the Box Pro into the soundbar is the right one, if the sync can be fixed).

By the way, (and not that it makes a blind bit of practical difference to anything here), the video going from the soundbar to the TV Is using the ARC port as a straight HDMI input, and the ARC doesn’t come into it; the ARC is only used when the TV feeds the soundbar, e.g. when watching broadcast TV.

Thanks Midnight Voice.

I tried your suggestion of plugging the TV Pro box directly into the TV. I can get video ok. The  only sound I can get is from the TV itself, not the soundbar.  My TV has HDMI but is pre ARC.

My only option is to cable as I had previously which leaves me with the sound sync issue. I've basically swapped a Sky Q box for the EE TV Pro box,  cable for cable. I've never had a problem with sync with Sky. I have now with the Pro box.

If you do an Internet search for "sync issues with TV Pro box " it points to a good number of threads on this forum. This is not just an issue with me, others are having the same problem. Oddly,  none of the previous threads have a solution.

@Oldwobbler

So your TV predates 2009; I can see why you have your system wired as you do.

Paradoxically, perhaps, video was a much simpler thing in those days; I wonder if the Box Pro is ‘aiming off’ a bit with the video sync, expecting more video delay than you are getting, knowing that modern TVs do quite a bit of processing of the picture signal before displaying it?

It might be useful if people with these sync problems would specify the model and the age of the affected TVs.

I’ve recently changed to an EE Pro box from years of Sky Q. I never had any lip sync issues with Sky but the first thing I noticed with the EE box was an extremely annoying lip sync issue. Adjusting the audio delay just makes it worse but I think I’ve cured it by deselecting HDMI Frame Rate Matching

I have an LG C3 Oled and using a Sonos Soundbar, I too have recently moved from Sky Q and I am now using the EE Pro Box… the lip sync issue is annoying and I have tried everything the only way to fix the issue is changing to Stero.. this fixes the issue but the only problem is you get no Dolby Atmos… I feel it’s either Hardware or a software issue with the Pro Box and has nothing to do with the type of TV or Soundbar you use… I think this is a major issue with the Pro Box and needs addressing by EE/BT to fix the issue… I’m not interested in trying different ways to fix the issue as I have covered all that it’s down to the Pro Box and needs fixing…
