JVC TV control

Hi,

I recently bought a new TV (JVC LT-40CR330). With other products the TV control works via the HDMI CEC. When I plug in either of the EE TV Box Pro or the mini the TV volume control and power control does not work.

I have tried doing a factory reset on the box, tried re-pairing the remote, and ensured that the remote is set to control the TV, but it still just controls the volume on the TV. I also have tried disconnecting my soundbar from the TV ARC, and I have also tried the other HDMI ports.

The EE TV boxes both work correctly with other TVs, and with the new TV the HDMI CEC works if I plug in a completely different device to the same port.

Can someone please advise me on how to get this working?

Thanks in advance!

You know its an entirely workable solution, also you dont have to get that model, you can get way nicer ones, but I can just confirm that that one works.

Found my old post about it.

Hi @NeedCECToWork

Welcome to the community.

It sounds like you've tried everything we'd usually recommend, to be honest. Are you following the steps on this Pairing your EE TV remote with your TV help page when you're pairing it?

Could you also try pairing it through the TV settings under Bluetooth settings > Pair a new device?

Hi @Christopher_G

Thanks for your response. My TV is a roku tv and doesn't seem to havew the option of pairing a new device that way - I can specify pairing speakers/headphones, or pairing a new remote - the new remote appears to have to be a roku one specifically.

I can confirm that I have tried the steps on the help page you have linked to. Is there any other steps I can take to get this resolved, or am I just unfortunate that the box doesn't seem to be compatable for controlling my TV?

Thanks,

Dawud

Might just not be compatible, Roku and Fire TV's do seem to be problematic from my experience, noticed a couple posts over on Sky forums that Stream was not working with all remote features.

My mum and dad have a Fire TV, Panasonic one, pretty high spec as well, as much as the Sky remote works for volume after syncing it, it does not work for powering the TV on or off which is super annoying cause they need two remotes around all the time. I was messing around with it and could not get it to work.

After having these type of issues over the years, I think the easiest thing alot of the time is to get a 3rd party remote, OneForAll is one example, then you can just code certain buttons to do certain things and you dont need to rely on CEC which isnt always perfect.

In my case because I have an AVR I set my EETV Box Pro to Surround Sound mode....but this renders the volume control on the remote useless, it will simply not control the volume on my AVR, even though its an all singing dancing Denon, works fine with Apple TV remote etc. So I just got one of these for a tenner:  One For All URC1210

Coded the remote to the Youview Code so then it works for all the normal EETV functions, then I coded the volume control specifically to the my AV, alot of these remotes also allow you to completely customise any control, IE change the coding on the power button alone. Bit fiddly to setup that first time I admit, but generally solves CEC woes.

@Christopher_G Great, thanks for that.Appreciate you sharing the workaround. Slightly frustrating that a workaround is required at all though!

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to rely on IR functionality for the remote, but I suppose that's just how it is!

@naylor2006 Apologies, meant to tag you in the previous response.

I do agree it's workable - but surely you can understand the frustration of something not working that should be workable? Going to mark this as resolved as I think other than your solution the only other possible avenue is software updates.

Thanks for your help with this.

Oh yeah of course, im not here to defend EETV :), just providing a relatively cheap method or working around.

I'd rather the native remote controlled my AV via CEC in the same way my Apple TV's do, I moaned about it for a couple days but realised that I dont think EETV (youview) will ever prioritise compatibility with AVR's, I think some people get it to work over ARC (hawk tuah), where the remote is controlling TV volume but the TV volume is controlling a sound bar etc..I dunno, quick tenner on a remote was a happy way out in the end.

I got that cheap one because I didnt want to fork out incase it didnt work, I used to have an OneForAll that lit up, had it for donkeys years, there are some very nice models that have programable macros....for example you can power on multiple devices at one with one button. Have a look, one of those remotes might work for you....sorry it is IR though!
