TRAVEL DATA PASS - BEWARE

Beware!!!!!

If you have applied for a Travel Data Pass, IT IS NOT FREE!!!

Until I applied for a travel data pass last year, when I travelled abroad I would receive a text asking me if I wanted to buy travel data at X per day.

I've just returned from the Caribbean and been hit with £167 of travel data charges. This Travel Data Pass (which is not free) IS A CON!

At no point did I receive a message asking me if I wanted my Travel Data Pass activated. It was just left running in the background!

If you have signed up for this I suggest you cancel NOW! Otherwise you could end up with a massive bill at the end of your trip.

Morning @mjrimell

Please give us a call on 150 if you have not heard back from our customer care team, and they will get this looked into for you and let you know what they can do to help.

Thanks.

Leanne.

With respect Leanne

I have contacted customer services twice and was told on both occasions that as I had used the service ( albeit unknowingly), I have to pay. My next step is the communications ombudsman.

Kind regards
Michael

Hello @mjrimell

Thanks for getting back to us.

I have sent you a private message for further details.

When you have a moment please take a look and get back to me.

Katie 🙂

Hi EE,

I've been the subject of a fraudulent act, which has resulted in the theft of money from my bank account!

My post will read the same as @mjrimell so to save time @Katie_B can you look into how I can have the balance added back into my account from my visit to Mexico, please?

I have just upgraded my account and received a text from 150 telling me that you have removed my 'Travel Data Pass' so I've ended up on this thread. My partner received a text telling her she would need to top up, but I didn't, so I thought my account must be OK as I was mainly using hotel WiFi and in any case I would get a message from 150 telling me to top up. No message arrived and now my bill is over the top. I signed up to the 'Travel Data Pass because it sounds like it is going to help me save money, when in fact it is a direct scam! Who on earth would sign up to an add on that withholds information from you and then bills you for it at the end of the period? That's like ordering a meal in a restaurant without looking at the prices because the waiter says 'There's no need' only to be stung at the end of the meal!!!
The telecoms ombudsman needs to be all over this! EE needs to message all of it's customers and give refunds for this fraudulent act.

I look forward to someone contacting me, at your earliest convenience or simply refund my money and the doubtless millions that you have stolen from other unfortunate customers.

@Matt1802

I have paid my contracted monthly amount and withheld the amount that I’ve been charged for the travel pass.

suggest you do the same until this is resolved.

ps. I concur with everything you have said in your post.

@mjrimell

I have just chatted to some of my friends who are shocked at this unethical approach. It is sickening, after the 2 years we have all been through, to discover that a company that we hoped we could trust has set up a an intended fraud. There is no way to look at this except for a deliberate money grab.

No one in there right mind would have clicked on and accepted 'Travel data pass' knowing that it was designed to hide your data use and billing information until after your holiday! I can't wait to see what their barrister says as a defence in court...!

The crazy thing is that if EE had messaged me and asked me if I wanted to buy some data (as was the case before) I would have bought it, if I needed it.

To have it running surreptitiously in the background is at best unethical, at worst it’s bordering criminal.

Still waiting for a call from EE.

No wonder! You won't! You don't top-up contract nos., only PAYG; you pay a monthly bill. Your partner is on PAYG & so needs to top-up to use her phone when outside EU.

@XRaySpeX are you a Troll paid by EE so that innocent people feel threatened by your aggressive input?
Where on earth did you figure out that my partner and I are on different types of contract? It wasn't in my thread? Are you also psychic?

For the record my partner and I are on exactly the same contracts. Now, if you can manage to actually offer any supportive input please feel free otherwise you would greatly help @mjrimell and myself by leaving this thread as your input is far from helpful!

Sorry, @Matt1802 , if it's a fact that only PAYG nos. top-up & contract nos. don't!

You may v. well be using the wrong terminology in your posts but I'm not clairvoyant enough to interpret it.
