My limited speed on mobile since porting from bt , am i wrong to be upset ?

Hi all.

So moved from bt tp ee due to contract renewal , and was told it had to be done basically. Internet working fine although had an issues with Ethernet slow to activate, but was sorted with help from the community. Now I have a mobile data speed question .

I had a sim only when was on bt and it cost me the same as what i am paying for the sim om ee now, which all good . The issue i have is that the new card is limited to the 10mbps limit , and the bt one was not limited speeds at all .

So basically to get a 5g speed at all I would assume I would have to contact EE and upgrade the sim plan. Which in turn would cost more money .  As this was not my choice and I was ported from bt to ee am I wrong I should be getting the same as I was getting before in speed  for what I was paying , as it was not my choice to move and why should it cost me more if it was not my choice . Thank you

I had a similar issue. Was on 2 BT 12Gb sims, doubled up to 24Gb as we had their Fibre 900. Initial EE option offered was unlimited data, but I discovered after the event, speed capped at 10meg. AFAIK, BT didn’t cap mobile speeds. As I had a global complaint in with BT/EE Executive I added this issue and the plan was promptly changed to a more suitable speed tho with a data cap.

To me it was equivalent to a water co saying you can use all the water you want, but it only comes out of the tap 1 drop at a time. Extreme analogy, but you‘ll know what I mean. That said, BT/EE offer BB Fibre deals capped by speed but not data, so maybe that measure isn’t the big deal I thought it to be. It’s just that on the phone side, it’s a change from BT, when many of us had expected little more than a change of logo 🤷🏼

We’ve ended up with Fibre 900 as before, at a similar cost, TV at a slightly higher cost but NF now has ads, and cheaper sims with a similar data cap but now speed throttled. Overall, not quite the same. But I’m committed now, so it is what it is.

If you feel the deal was mid-sold, complain.

@lee359   The cast of you’re new EE tariff is going to effect what speeds you receive.  It’s the cheapest tariffs that get the slowest speeds.  And you didn’t have to upgrade that was your choice but because you chose to upgrade you had to move over to EE as EE is for consumers.    If you decide to call customer support to try and get this sorted when you next upgrade if it is to a cheaper tariff  with a low speed limit that’s what you’ll get.

@Chris_B

I can grasp the concept. You get what you pay for. But in my case, it wasn’t quite so black or white. I’d never heard of mobile speed caps, and that my package would be capped that way wasn’t mentioned during the sales call.

It *was* shown on the paperwork, but it was only later I was able to read it. A lesson learned there.

The irony is that we ex BT folks are totally used to buying a BB speed package with unlimited data. Just not on the mobile side, where the emphasis was on capped data at speeds determined only by network and device.

I’ll know better next time.

Is it on contract or PAYG? As far as I'm aware only PAYG SIMs are speed capped so low & that's to 25 Meg.

@XRaySpeX

I’m on contract, sims only.

The deal originally offered to me was unltd data, capped at 10meg speed.

@XRaySpeX

It'll be an Unlimited No Frills SIM with EE One/Multi Product Benefits at £10pm on a 1-month rolling contract. Speed on No Frills is capped at 10 Mbps (was previously 25 Mbps like PAYG but NF was changed to 10 in August 2023 i believe with that Tariff Refresh).

Seems rather odd to me that PAYG has a higher speed cap than No Frills but hey-ho, someone thought it was a good idea.

You don’t get unlimited data for £10 on PAYG so a contract could be more beneficial if you want this amount of data.     The no frills unlimited data  sim only is £27 so by having BB as well it’s a 30 day rolling contract at a reduced cost.

You could always have this
