I’m having issues with my TP Link archer 4g router with an EE SIM card and the connection to my work laptop. I’ve seen various comments about ipv4 and ipv6 connections which may be the issue, but I haven’t come across a solution as of yet. I’m hoping someone more tech savvy than me can give me some pointers.
- The connection speed to my work laptop is very slow. Some websites like Google maps simply do not load, strangely bing maps does load. I have a Wi-Fi extender and if I change connections back and forth between the router and extender, this often gets websites to load.
- Wi-Fi connections with other devices (phones, tv, alexa etc) all seem to be fine. I stream HD tv with no buffering. There seems to be a comparability issue with my work laptop .
- If I try a Vodafone SIM card in the router. This fixes the issue. Which is why work IT are insisting this is an EE issue.
- I have replaced the EE SIM card and Tp link provided a new router under warranty in case that was this issue. Neither fixed it.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi @Jkttyyuu
Thanks for coming here.
Does the work laptop use a VPN connection?
Do you have any other EE devices, if so, will the laptop connect to the other EE device as a hotspot?

Hi Leanne,
Yes my laptop uses a VPN as far as I’m aware.
If I hotspot to my EE iPhone, that seems to fix the issue. It’s the combination of the router and EE sim that seems to be the issue. From what I understand they should be perfectly compatible.
Many thanks
Joe

I have tried my mobile sim in the router, and I have replaced the SIM card in the router to rule out a faulty sim, and all EE SIM cards have a slow connection when in the TP link router.

That would indicate the router that is maybe the issue, did you get a new router or was this repaired? @Jkttyyuu

The router was replaced with a brand new router, which was an updated model of the old router. If you search the EE forum it does seem there’s some kind of issue with TP link archer routers and EE sims.
The setup did used to work with the tp link router and EE sim, but randomly the connection became slow one day, despite nothing changing.
