Advice for neighbours broadband

Excuse the slightly long winded post. I'm not sure if anyone can give some advice here. Our neighbour who has learning difficulties asked us to take a look at his internet this week as it's not working. We live in the Scottish Islands so he has a 4G router with an EE payg sim in it. He also has a phone with a different payg sim in it.

The problem is he has no data left on the payg sim in the router. He isn't clear on the differences between the phone sim and router sim I think, so he's been topping up his phone (now has > £250 credit..!) but it's not helping his 4g broadband obviously.

I connected to the 4g router (it's a smart hub 2 I think). I can see there is EE connection and everything seemed okay but the internet connect icon is greyed out and when you clicked on the button on the router home page that says something like "click here to check your credit" you can see he has no data but trying to add credit there didn't work. The page just wouldn't load.

So I'm trying to think of a solution that would be easy for him to navigate. Is it possible to top up the payg sim for the router on his phone (e.g. manage two separate accounts on there?) or maybe it's possible to have two sims that share credit or something. I think he's tied to payg or similar as I'm not sure he'd could get a contract.

  1. You can't share credit or data between 2 PAYG SIMs.
  2. He could put his phone SIM in his mobile router to use its data, OR
  3. He could use Fast Top Up online with a UK bank card. He doesn't need to login or register anything. All he needs is his router's mobile no. & it doesn't remember his card details. He can do this from anywhere incl. his phone.
