Is it possible to have DV over FTTC or even ADSL? The VoIP signals can still come over copper to the home & all it would need is simple modem router with an integrated DECT base station &/or a phone socket.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Hey there @XRaySpeX!
My understanding was that all new home phone connections taken will be via Digital Voice, and this will be supported on all broadband types
I've run a check of a family member's address where FTTC is the only service available, and this was the option that was offered.

I've had DV on FTTC for 5 years now @XRaySpeX .

@XRaySpeX Only thing i would look at carefully would be on a very slow ADSL line is the upload speed, that is where the strain would be for any kind of system, especially now moving the landline onto that type of connection and trying to use broadband at the same time.

Standard PCM channels used in the PSTN network are 64Kbps so carrying that even on slower ASDL is easily possible, the challenge come with prioritising voice traffic over anything else to give acceptable quality is the challenge.
BT/Openreach have already converted a number of lines around the country from the old PSTN to DV, must pay a visit to a mate who has it done to see the details.

@Mustrum Most people with older slow ADSL lines do know not to push the envelope to much regarding there internet, adding voip should not kill it, and as you say manage the expectations. If anything it may actually get better with everyone kind of moving to fibre will free up some of the bandwidth.

@JimM11 : Since when does living in an area with slow BB speeds imply a lack of technical knowledge?

@JimM11 the shocking thing is the lack of understanding, information and publicity available.
It is not rocket science, but it seems more people would do better on a rocket science test that a DV and how it impacts' me test!
