Smart Hub Plus on FTTC traffic issues

Hi I was moved to EE from Plusnet due to wanting to retain a landline.

I was supplied with a EE Smarthub Plus and have been experiencing periods on traffic issues where the latency beyond the LAN goes high >1000ms and packets start to be dropped.

I have tried a second Smart Hub Plus and am experiencing the same thing.

I suspect something is happening with in the hub itself rather than a change in the connection between the hub and the cabinet, as the lan itself stays stable under load but the traffic through the hub really struggles, it is making streaming services unusable at times.

is there any traffic shaping and QOS occurring in this hub? There is very little to configure on the hub setup pages themselves, are there options CS can enable/disable to help with traffic?

I simply didn’t have these issues on the Plusnet router/modem

Thanks

@Chiliblue Do you have any wireless extenders, smart wireless or other wireless AP's on the system apart from your EE Hub?

Two hubs, do i assume EE sent you another to try?

Oh it’s bad for sure Jim.

But compared to when it goes bad it is workable.

Yes the WiFi on the hub was on, will run again when I get a mo when there are less people around to complain when I cut them off.

I live out in the sticks so there isn’t a lot of RF to interfere and it’s not as if anyone could piggyback on to my network unless they were sat in my house or garden.

Yes 2 hubs the original one EE sent and then the replacement, both identical HUB Plus (not sure about the fe as I haven’t plugged the original back in since this new one arrived.

Network is hub

port 1 NAS

port 2 > switch to TV, Mesh AP which is on the far side of the house.

port 3 > switch to PS5 and Xbox

port 4 > NAS 2

so there is a mesh as well as the hubs WiFi , but they are different frequencies and distant from each other. Plus I have tested even when down to a single NAS and the hub wifi running.

@Chiliblue Your mesh AP one from EE and wired backhaul from switch to the EE Hub? Would be a EE SW30A as linked below.

EE WiFi Extender 6 Plus | Device Help

You will have to pare it all back, Hub only all devices and wireless switched off and ping test that way, something weird going on with your network.

You will get away with the 400ms delay's not the best so really need to pin it down, if it was me first off would be all the wifi then on one at a time, 2.4Ghz first but you do need a little stability period between..... If your wireless wifi interrupt's and the Lan is not playing well you should see it flag up straight away. If you need you can keep this running below on a single PC.

The Lan on the Hub has only recently been fixed after two years with delay's on it, and also do not disregard you switches especially if they are managed ones.

@Chiliblue Couple of test's first is wireless wifi, 2nd will be Ethernet just away to start that on the desktop.

wifi running stopped after 6 mins, before peak average was 36ms...wifi running stopped after 6 mins, before peak average was 36ms...

2nd one now, Ethernet connected, whole network on and stopped it at 5.5 mins so you could see.

Ethernet and full network is on....Ethernet and full network is on....

Hi Jim,

No, not the EE mesh but a cheap Tenda one that predates the change to EE.

No just small unmananged gigabit switches.

i have pulled it all down to basics but haven’t done tests without the EE WiFi so will try that.

Worth mentioning however is I don’t have these variance when pinging across the LAN those are relatively stable it’s really feels like an issue at the bridge from the inbuilt switch in the HUB and the LAN.

Time will see feels like I will change provider before resolving it if I am honest.

@Chiliblue You should have stayed with PN and just moved you voice to a voip like A&A. Do not get why all the PN user's migrating across seem to be having so many problems out the get go.... No longer an EE customer myself so nothing i can test with, but for the 11months i stuck it out once i got the old FTTC line sorted took 3 months and that Hub hated the connection it was fine then, the remainder off the time was a FTTP connection then EE messed a FW update, that straw broke the camels back and i OTS'd away back to sky....

@Chiliblue Your posted picture is not getting through, probably to much detail on it not scrubbed out for viewing, does not matter to much but would have been interesting to see your FTTC down/up ratio.

Something on your network internal may be the issue, so tear it down and go one at a time, looks like you know what you are doing from what i have seen with your posting and responses.
