New EE's Full Fibre BB (FTTP) only running at max 950mb ? Should be 1.6 Gbps !

I had my new install today and its only running at max 950mb down and 115 up and it should be 1.6gbps

I have the new EE SMART Hub ! Can someone advise ?   I have Cat 8 Cable connected to the Yellow Ethernet ports.

Does it matter what port you put it in as its not got any label or marks to say otherwise. please advise as I am paying £25 more to get these faster speeds that I don't currently get.

@XRaySpeX Did not think teh originally supplied EE Smarthub had a 2.5Gbe WAN port that's what

@cliffy37 : "Originally supplied" to whom? To the world in general or to the OP?

I believe you are thinking of the EE Smart Hub (2023). That didn't have a 2.5 Gig WAN Port (nor did it have WiFi-6). But the OP wouldn't have that 1 but the EE Smart Hub +, as he is on a 1.6 Gig plan & is attaining 1.4 Gig over Wifi.

This discussion is going nowhere & is O.T.

@XRaySpeX  I forgot the Plus had a 2.5Gbe WAN port simple as that. I did not look at my EE Router when it came and it went straight in the loft still boxed as i did not was a POS that could not provide full speed over a LAN port in 2024. The thread has not gone O.T just people answering the Op's original question and helping him achieve advertised speeds through a single connection.

I had the same problem. Call EE and request that Openreach come out and replace the ONT with the 2.5Tbps device. Most of the Openreach/EE engineers do not know that they have a higher speed than 900mbps.

i had mine replaced last week and getting 1685mbps download and 115mbps upload.

ita definitely the problem.

I forgot to mention, the standard ONT is only 1G, they should know this if you ask the Openreach engineer to check the ONT. BT themselves don't have a FTTH product above 900Mbps at the moment so assume the 1G ONT is always sufficient. EE are providing the higher speed service, so you need the 2.5Gbps ONT.

@Profile closed : The OP already has a 2.5 Gig ONT. Else how would he be achieving 1.4 Gig over WiFi in speedtests?

No, he doesn't need to call EE & ask for the ONT to be replaced.

@iJason : Please be aware that if you ever intend to have a digital landline then you must have the SH+ connected directly to the ONT.

To try & summarise & clarify the facts for the benefit of anybody reading this, the OP has:

  1. Ordered & had installed EE Full Fibre (FTTP) 1.6 Gig BB.
  2. A 2.5 Gig ONT as part of that installation.
  3. Received a Smart Hub Plus (SH+) router which has a 2.5 Gig WAN port, 4 x 1  Gig LAN ports & WiFi-6 capability.
  4. Connected the WAN port on the ONT to the Red WAN port of the SH+.
  5. Achieved 950 Meg speeds over Ethernet.
  6. Achieved 1.4 Gig speeds over WiFi.
  7. Doubts however about capability of the LAN ports of the SH+ being rated at only 1 Gig & so are incapable of attaining anywhere near to his plan speeds.
  8. Accordingly ordered a  TP-Link BE9300 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 7 Router with 4 x 2.5 Gig LAN ports to replace the SH+ & is eagerly awaiting it.

If I've missed anything, I'm sorry, but please draw it to my attention.

@XRaySpeX Just to cover the pertinent points,. The OP originally had an issue with not getting the full 1.6Gbps on a single port on the EE Smart hub, the community answered and solved this issue for them. Second point was the OP was having issue getting full speed with a third party router they where using, the community advised and helped get to the bottom of this problem. Final point was the community hopefully helped the op pick a new router that would meet there needs. All of this was achieved before you showed up

I also would not bother with Digital Voice from any ISP, they tie you into using there BS equipment, much better off getting a real VOIP solution that does not force you into using sub standard equipment

Pretty confident all of us who read the thread from the beginning are quite aware of the details

I'd love to know if the Op has received there new router and if it solved there issues but other then that i see the cobversation as other
