Hub 7+ WiFi turns itself back on

With Main 2.4 and 5GHz switched off in the dashboard, I noticed on a WiFi analyser app that the SSIDs for the hub had re-appeared.

Only compatible 2.4 was meant to be enabled. The main WiFi was still showing as off in the app but confirmed as back on when logging into the dashboard.

It's not clear what caused the WiFi to switch back on - possibly after a hub restart -I think I might have seen this happen once before in the few days I've had the pleasure of using the EE hub 7+

The router log is no help - listing little info compared with previous PN hub for example.

After switching main WiFi off again (and of course saving) the SSIDs did disappear - but after clicking other screens in the dashboard, the WiFi turned on again. After repeating the switch off and save steps it's so far staying off.

It's pointless reporting this as support lines tend not to understand f/w issues -  offering restart or factory reset or to send out a replacement device as options which just waste more time.

This issue is on top of the slow (10secs+)  time it takes for devices to connect to Internet from wake (nothing to do with keeping LAN ports alive) and slow LAN device discovery (minutes sometimes).

I've got a PN Hub 2 which worked well for ages but not sure how it will cope with EE IPv6.

What other router options work well?

You sure you are not seeing the public EE WiFi network being transmitted? This you share with other New EE & BT BB users unless you opt out.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

@jak26 Asus. When did you turn the Main wifi off, pre FW update or post FW update, app chocolate teapot, trust the web manager settings and check when app is looked at to see your hub is holding what you want.

Wifi analyzer and record / screen capture on the mobile when it is all working as you need, that will let you know when you look at it for the MANY wifi signal's that the hub throws out!

You are the First to report this on a 7+ version, but then again not many will be disabling the Main Wifi signal in operation and still trying to use the Comp feature on it.

Its not the public WIFI SSID  and sorry but I cant understand "Check when app is looked at to see your hub is holding what you want. ... Wifi analyzer and record / screen capture on the mobile when it is all working as you need, that will let you know when you look at it for the MANY wifi signal's that the hub throws out!"

Things are as I said above -

WiFi is turned off - I.e in the dashboard the setting is off and the main WiFi 2.4 and 5 hub main SSIDs are absent on analyser app and devices

Then something happens - maybe after a restart the firmware is turning WiFi on without not checking  user setting

The router SSIDs appear again on other devices and the setting in dashboard is back to On - theres no mistaking the issue

----

How are issues reported to EE ?

Any router suggestions (actual model numbers) ?

@jak26 How do you know that the EE app is not turning them back on again, by mistake. If they are off, switch the hub off, leave it 5 minutes switch it back on and go look at it with ANYTHING web manager wise, ideally a laptop etc, but keep away from the hub with the app....

@jak26 Send the text HELP to 66033, that kicks off a diagnostic from EE all the way through your ONT to the EE hub and all your connected devices, it produces a HomeView+ pdf file that EE look at and then a EE/BT Guide should call you regarding your help request.

The fact you say you have a 7+ hub, you are on a FF Full Fibre connection.

The strange part is why the app say's off and the dashboard has turned itself back ON.... That hub you have has not been FW updated so last time was back in Jan 2026....

@jak26 Can you say if you care why is the Main wifi turned off? Sent you a PM.....

The BT Smarthub 2 very like your Plusnet version but with the DV voice connection enabled on the hub, spec wise it will be very close to what the PN did, also works direct on the FF connection at FF900 but wifi may struggle to get up much above 600Mb/s, Ethernet connection would be ok..... May have a similar look and feel to the PN web manager wise, that i do not know....

The most likely trigger was still a router restart - so when I next need to restart the hub I'll be sure to check for WiFi turning back on - then I'll have a clear sequence of steps to report.

I get that the 7+ is fairly new, so regulars here don't have or use one, or users keep main WIFI enabled or haven't noticed it switching back on. Right now I just need stable compat 2.4 from the hub and its LAN ports working - so not yet seeing the WIFI issues reported.

--

But the other issue I'm seeing - worse as it affects day to day use  - is LAN device discovery. Straight away one smart home device seemed slow to discover, and then after the hub had been running for a few days a NAS (specifically its hostname) stopped being seen by Windows  - hence the hub restart.  Then there's the 10+ secs delay for devices to get their internet connection after waking up.

--

Cheers for info about PN hub 2 / BT Smarthub 2 on EE - that'll be the next step if any of the above issues - or any new ones - become too big a problem.

@jak26 You should not see the wifi issue reported with that version off the 7+Hub, if the update is FW related then the one you have has NOT been touched since way back in Jan 2026!

Restart off the Hub may be the cause off the wifi switching back on, you should look pre switch off and post switch on so you have a confirmed state both way's.

Regarding your Lan issue, are you connected on the 1Gb/s or the 2.5Gb/s Ethernet EE Hub port?

Link below to the all about that version of the EE Hub.

Can confirm the issue - restarting the hub 7+ does turn main 2.4 and 5 WiFi back on when only compatible WIFI and LAN sockets are in use. It can be turned off again in settings and stays off until the next restart.

The restart was necessary as a PC was showing no IPv6 (address, DNS, connectivity) on startup

The hub 7+ showed iPv6 network status:Disabled - so restarted the hub

Now the PC has IPv6 again - confirmed by a IPv6 test website as well as Windows info - but annoyingly the hub still shows  iPv6 network status:Disabled and doesn't show IPv6 addresses in the device list for example

There's no issue shown on the local status checker so assume this is yet another hub issue.
