EE Smart Hub Plus poor range and connection strengh compared to BT Smart Hub 2

Monaco24

Our BT broadband contract came to an end so we've moved fully to EE now and been sent out an EE Smart Hub Plus to replace our BT Smart Hub 2. There seems to be a considerable reduction in range with the new EE box and an unstable or poor wifi connection in parts of the house that were fine with the BT box. All in all it feels like a downgrade, has anyone else had similar issues with the EE boxes?

I'm tempted just to send it back and stick with the older BT box but not sure if that will cause any issues down the line..

Thanks

@kste1 Are you a EE customer using the BT hub?

No, I'm unfortunately using the EE Hub.

@kste1 If there is anything specific that the forum can possibly help you with post it, do not pin your hopes on a ISP supplied router that is going into trials, the EEsuperhub+ has been there for a while, and it all takes time to get it right.

Hi Jim thanks. The new EE smart hub was installed in my kitchen/family area at my request because it’s fairly central in our house and next to our wall mounted smart TV. My speed in this new area has gone up now from 35 to 600 with the new full fibre. When I move my phone/iPad way 20 ft from the hub speeds fall to about 60. I have installed 5 smart hub extenders (the white EE type) with Ethernet on each and that is giving me speed of 60 with 3 bars on devices, except for one in the bedroom which is only giving 5?

Hi again - why do you think my range from the hub is quite short and is there anything I can do to improve the strength apart from extenders . Do the black circular BT extenders  work with the smart hub plus? I never had to Ethernet link them with my old  BT2. I would value your opinions

@JSACollins If you have the New EE Smarthub+ router, then it is reported that the Black BT Round circular booster's DO NOT WORK with this router. It has its own NEW complete mesh system. If you still have the old BT hub then you should put it back on and re-establish the network. The BT2 hub is actually very good, you may not be gaining anything with the new EE router.

Will watch out for your reply.

@JSACollins Re reading your post, can you post what the led's are colour wise on the Router and on all of your new EE smart wi-fi extender's. does your smart wi-fi look like this first link below. 2nd link is about the setup.

Hi Jim - in answer to your question- yes the new EE extenders look like the one on the link. I am getting a solid blue on the lights on front but the speed is still lower than the hub area. Unfortunately, EE requested me to send the old BT2 hub back which I have done. I wouldn’t want to tamper with the new hub in case I caused a severe problem. I’m very happy with the speeds in the kitchen but disappointing with the speeds elsewhere- any further advice appreciated

This is the colour of the light on my main hub- is that OK? It’s certainly working up to 7 metres
