December price increase

Whilst I understand EE's annual inflation linked increases in March, but don't agree with them, I have just received a price increase from £30 to £34 without any explanation whatsoever!!! Anyone else experienced similar ...?                                                        Needless to say I have now switched provider, especially as EE don't seem to be able to come up with an explanation for this. I was hoping for an answer before I take this to Ofcom (who ruled in my favour the last time I had to contact them re EE!)

If I wanted to argue with strangers, I would have gone on Facebook instead of this community help group.

That looks very much like auto renewal to me...?

It may be helpful to explain the nature of service provision contracts such as this scenario.

"Renewal" generally refers to fixed-term contracts that end on a specific data, and the service ceases to be provided - insurance is an excellent example.

Telecoms provision is fundamentally not on a fixed-term basis, else the natural consequence would be automatic cessation of service on the relevant date. These are rolling contracts that only ever end if disconnection notice is explicitly given or a transfer process is used.

What you have in this case is a minimum-term which has expired, but your contract continues on a rolling basis where disconnection notice could be given at any time, at no additional cost. It is common for time-limited promotional discounts to expire at the same time as your minimum term. Based purely on the posts in this thread thus far, I would agree with suspicions that this is the case with your pricing too.

Is it a surprise that nobody was able to come up with an easy explanation to my original query...?

Here's a recap:

My 24 month contract runs out on 14/12

My latest bill covers 22/11 to 21/12 and has gone up from £30.41 to £34.26

This will be debited on 6/12

And all this without any communication from EE, whose main business is.........?

So after almost 10 years with EE, I'm not sorry to say I'm changing provider and saving myself £10 per month, whilst getting 150Mbps instead of 100Mbps!

Over and out

If you have time-limited discounts tied to your minimum-term date, then your latest bill covers 7days of non-discounted period.

Good afternoon @Not-happEE.

I'm disappointed to hear you don't feel you've been able to get a clear answer on this.

Our team should absolutely be able to confirm this, but I strongly suspect this is as @bristolian has speculated, and it's the end of a promotional discount on your contract.

We would never automatically regrade a customer to a new fixed contract - this will continue to roll at the out of contract price until you regrade to a new plan, switch provider, or request cancellation.

This is simply a case of your billing dates and contract dates not perfectly aligning, so the last few days of the current billing cycle would be outside of the discounted contract period, so part of the month's charges would be missing the discount.

It's absolutely up to you on what you do next, but what you've experienced here is completely normal for the end of a contract, and our team would be able to look into all of the options available for you moving forwards.
