So I updated the EE app last night but my EE icon at the top left of the screen has disappeared. I went into settings and when I have activated permissions for the phone the app then crashes.

Does uninstalling it and reinstalling it help?
If you have important data stored in the app, you might not want to do that, otherwise you could remove all user files related to the app to give you the best chance of success. Good luck!

Are there 2 Icons, one on your Home Screen(s) the other in your App Drawer, then delete the Home screen one and re drag the AppDrawer one to the Home Screen.
If above doesn't work clear the Cookies for that App only.
If neither works try another Upgrade, or if that fails follow @mikeliuk advice on reinstall and reinstall from the App Store but as he points out you will lose your Info so Sign in again etc.

So my Dynatrace seems to be activated which is was not but still the EE icon doesn't appear.
Any other thoughts. Perhaps the EE icon doesn't need to appear.

@NeilDrummond What is the EE icon ? Do you mean the app or the EE network logo near your cellular signal icon ?

So it was the EE logo next to the time. Is was a silent notification.
