EE smart router dual band problem

I recently upgraded to an EE smart router, problem i have now is that my gaming laptop will often only connect to the 2.4ghz channel, and not the 5ghz .

This is no good for games or my vr headset when playing games, and now i have to keep checking the band, and disconnect/reconnect until i get a 5ghz connection. I know the EE router can not separate the bands into different ssid, but the smart hub can, so why was i not sent the hub instead of the router, and is it possible to upgrade or change to the hub.

why is it the smart router in use and not the smart hub, as my gaming laptop keeps connecting to the slower 2.4ghz, not the 5ghz, and the router can not separate the bands, can it be exchanged for a smart hub.

Depends on which EE BB package you are on:

  1. For G.Fast (EE Fibre Max 100 or 300) you must use the EE Smart Router or get hold of a G.Fast modem.
  2. For FTTP (EE Full Fibre Max 900) you could use the EE Smart Hub or, indeed, practically any router on the market.

Hi @nosscar ,

Does your gaming laptop have an RJ45 port and are you near enough to the router to make a wired connection which should greatly benefit gaming with better stability and latency? You can measure the latency using fast.com or speedtest.net

You can use powerline adapters if the router is not near. Others may disapprove but I highly recommend Devolo powerline adapters having used them for over a decade in several properties (including currently for 4K UHD streaming and my work laptop, frequently giving under 30 ms and as low as 22 ms unloaded), other brands are available. Good luck!

thanks for the reply, i contacted EE, and as my laptop not near my router, they are sending me another disc, which i can put next to my laptop and connect via cable from that. hope that will sort it.
