I read online that BT are planing to get ride of the landlines but I just wanted to find out if that was true or not.

Yes, The UK’s PSTN network will switch off in 2025 . That applies to BT landlines as well as other phone providers, like EE, who use the OR infrastructure.
The traditional landline telephone call will be consigned to history from 2025 as all UK phone calls make the transition to digital (VoIP). That means every household and business in the country that wants to maintain a phone line will also need to be connected to the internet.
