I'm currently troubleshooting an issue with my Disney Plus streaming and an expert in mobile ISPs has suggested my carrier could be throttling speeds from specific companies due to them having contracts with other streaming providers.
Basically I'm getting buffering every 10mins when trying to watch the Mandalorian on Disney Plus but have no issues with Netflix or Prime. I get average 60-80mbps wired connection to a 4K Firestick. However my TV is 1080p so I'm even more surprised it cant handle that data. With those speeds however, I should be able to handle 4k if i wanted to.
I hoped it was just a peak time/disney plus server bottleneck but my friends and family who watch shows at peak times, with about the same speeds as me, never have buffering.
It could be Firestick issues although again, Netflix and Prime work perfectly. Im just trying to remove likely causes from the equation and this expert made a very good case for my carrier being the issue.
Has anyone had any buffering issues when using Disney Plus on a 4GEE home internet setup? Is it possible EE are throttling speeds to limit 4k streaming?
Equipment:
TP-Link MR600 router
Ethernet connected Amazon 4k Firestick
LG 1080p TV

Hi @camy252.
Have you ever used Disney Plus with another form of provider?
Are your Disney app and Firestick up to date?

Ive not used Disney Plus with another provider but my friends and family run it without this issue.
Both apps and firestick up-to-date.
I fixed it by turning quality from automatic to moderate. Bit annoying it doesnt say at which quality it runs these at, but i hoping the issue was that automatic was running 4k even though my TV is 1080p. No longer buffering so likely its now running at 1080p.
That still is a bit concerning as my speeds should handle 4k streaming without issue.
I did get some feedback by an expert who suggested EE could be throttling speeds from certain streaming providers due to conflicts of contracts. Which explains why netflix works fine.
