Disgusting Price Increase!

I've just had the email that you are now cashing in on the cost of living crisis by smashing a massive 14.4 % increase on my bill.

Its absolutely disgusting, at a time when people are struggling to eat and heat their homes you decide to hit us with that ridiculous increase, not just a few % you up it by 14.4%

Its sick and I'll never be using EE again when this contract ends, I'll also be going out of my way to warn other people from using you, there's absolutely no justification in a hike like that, its pure greed and you should be ashamed.

You're a disgrace!

You aren’t trapped into shopping at Sainsbury’s though and shoppers have voted with their feet.   Aldi and Lidl are doing really well at the moment!

Sounds like the same excuse Lance Armstrong used for dopping..."it's okay
if everyone does it".
I didn't buy it then, and don't buy it now.
It's absolutely not okay, this is about greed and the Government should act
under chapter II of the Competition Act 1998.

People are only 'trapped' because that's what they agreed to and they can leave if they wish to. Aldi and Lidl may be cheaper but then they offer limit ranges, unlike the larger Supermarkets. So they're not any different to mobile providers in as much as you generally get what you pay for.

I can understand people not liking the annual increase, I'm talking about the concept here not the actual amount. If you don't like the concept then don't take out a contract with them. I'm not fond of the annual increase as a concept but I accept it which is why I use EE. Therefore I accept the 14.4% because I agreed to that calculation when taking out the contract, I don't particularly like it but once inflation started to go up it was blindingly obvious how much the increase was likely to be this year.

As I said we do have a choice, we don't have to have a mobile phone, the world existed quite happily without them.

Don't do it then, don't take out a contract with a built in annual increase if you don't like it. You could use other providers at home if they offer wifi calling, or have a landline instead of a mobile. The choices are yours to make.

Yes, everyone will go back to using phone boxes?  Are you for real?  Mobile phone are an essential part of life.  I had to use my phone as a mobile hotspot for work for nearly 2 months recently.  I would have lost my job without it.  EE is the only provider where I live, so EE is providing an essential service to me...one that I pay a lot of money for.

Based on what you've said about contracts, I presume you have somehow, magically, been able to negotiate your contract with EE to remove this price rise?  Do tell us how you have achieved this?  The reality is, every provider has this in their contract, so you have no choice but to accept it, this is a non-negatable aspect.

The regulator is there to protect customers, and this is an example of why Ofcom need to force providers to remove the price increase part way through a contract, the contract should be a fixed price for the contract, no customer knew when taking out a contract that it would have a 14.4% increase prior to taking out that contract.  And even if they did they would have no power to change that.  This is where the regulator needs to step in.  Ofcom might not be able to reverse this for existing customers, but need to step in to protect us in the future.

You are quite right. The increase across the full plan, i.e. phone payment and service, is immoral. When our contracts were taken out, the cost was calculated based on an x month repayment plan for the device. To increase that part of the contract by any % is immoral. Always has been, always will. But, it was the way of the world. I have 4 lines with EE. I've been a Customer for a very very long time. If they don't make amends then I'll be shifting my business elswhere as well... just out of principle, whether the words are written in my contract or not. Slapping 15% on the monthly payment of my devices is outrageous in these times. There is no justification.

@steviekit I suspect you might have more success asking pertinent questions of your employer.

Being condescending doesn't help anyone.

Just got my price rises today, another £10 on top.

Well EE you can have your pound of flesh now but when my contract ends im off.

Thats just spiel. As people have already mentioned, we are aware of price increases - its the size of them thats the problem.
