My brother gave me his iPhone6 that he had with an EE contract.  I have a Vectone Sim operating on the EE network. Will EE allow the phone to be activated for this purpose? can this be done if we go in to an EE shop?

Hi @JohnLowrie ,

You may wish to coordinate with your brother on getting that phone unlocked if it is not already unlocked. https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/getting-started-and-upgrading/unlock-your-phone/unlock-a-ee-device-to...

An unlocked mobile phone is generally more useful and valuable, especially in emergency situations.

@JohnLowrie : Where did he himself get this device itself originally? Did he buy it himself new direct from EE or from a 3rd-party reseller or is it 2nd-hand? The unlocking process & costs are different.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

I am posting again as no reply yet and I see latest news about locked devices. Will EE relent or still block a phone from a very old contract?

Ofcom ban on selling locked mobile phones comes into force

@JohnLowrie   Ofcoms ruling is selling locked phones nothing about devices sold before this date there is a big difference.

you can request the device to be unlocked. Your brother can request the device to be unlocked.

the device needs to be unlock to use that network regardless if that network operator uses E E to supply its customers a signal.  No EE shop can help you with this the device has to be unlocked.

if the device is network blocked ie blacklisted then that device will remain blacklisted until the original owner of the device gets in touch with EE, However if the device was ever replaced via insurance then it will never have the blacklist removed as you will be trying to commit fraud as the device has already been replaced under insurance policy.

and if you click THIS you’ll see you had replies for your other thread.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Just as a sanity check, is that mobile definitely network locked? Have you checked whether your SIM works in it? (In case it's not obvious, these questions are distinct and do not address exactly the same thing.)
