I phone battery drain

Hi, has any one experienced iPhone battery drain since joining EE ?

I was transferred over from Plusnet just over a month ago and have noticed the battery on my iPhone 6s does not last half as long as it use to, checked the battery use and condition and all looks normal with a battery condition of 90%. My wife has the same phone and has experienced the same issue. The battery drain appears to be worse over night when not in use , and no app’s running in the background.

Any ideas much appreciated

Good luck with that, I, and various others have had the exact same issue and have not gotten any results from EE. They will make all sorts of excuses and tell you it’s not them, and make out it’s your phone. I spent ages trying to get it sorted to no avail. You will as I have bugger up your battery by constantly charging it .

best of luck, I and many others, EE will say no one else has the issue , have the issue but have no resolution.

By way of an update, my iphone 11 had the latest software update and the battery drain issue appeared to stop. That was until last weekend when it started to lose almost 100% charge overnight. Coincidentally, ER advised of an unspecified ‘local issue’ which was resolved a day later. Since then my battery drain has gone back to its normal 20% per day. , ie, I only charge once every 4 or 5 days. Meanwhile, my wife’s iPhone 11 which had not had the latest software update, was switched to GiffGaff and immediately was back to its usual rate of battery drain of around 25% per day. We updated the software and it remained on its usual drain rate. We switched it back to EE this week and, so far, its drain rate has been higher than with GiffGaff but lower than the rapid drain rate we initially faced on switching from Plusnet to EE. All very odd and must be related to the some sort of way that EE provision is interacting with older model (but still perfectly functional) iPhones. Whichever way you look at it, this is an EE generated issue yet they seem unwilling to accept it, or at least advise customers of what is actually going on. But since they are the ‘best mobile service provider’ why should they bother. Back to GiffGaff for both of us now though - proven to be cheaper, more stable, and more reliable and I won’t have to deal with  the uncaring customer care!

Hi, I've only just seen this thread, and was relieved to find others with the same experience, but disappointed that you've had no real acknowledgement from ee about this - which is clearly not just coincidence - despite all your efforts. My iPhone was holding its charge pretty much fully all day previously, unless I used it a lot in which case it would drop to somewhere in the 80%. Haven't had the phone long and was super impressed with battery life. Switched to ee from Plusnet, next couple of days I noticed my battery had drained to 26% overnight. I couldn't understand it. It didn't actually occur to me that the switch could have caused it! Nothing else has changed, but now I have to charge the battery a couple of times a day. Power drops so quickly. I have background refresh turned off for all apps, and I'm not a heavy app user anyway. I always close anything down that I'm using. Phone is iPhone SE, current iOS version 17.2.1. I've been checking battery usage over the last few days, and it's laughably low, eg right now.. 23m BBC Sounds, 22m Home & Lock Screen, 8m settings, 6m Messages, 4m Yahoo, 1m Duo Mobile, 1m Safari. I'm just trying airplane mode now to see if it makes any difference. But looks like I'll have to switch to another provider as others have. Thanks to all posters for all the information and help.

@LGI  closing apps from the app switcher actually uses more battery power when you reopen the app.  The app in the switcher is frozen so when you launch the app again it loads quicker and uses less power to launch it.    You only really need to fully close apps from the switcher if you encounter an issue when launching/using that app.

Same issue here for my wife and I following switch to EE from BT. Battery that previously lasted at least 2 days will now not last 1 day. Nothing changed other than transfer to EE sim and same issue with both phones! Battery strength is 84% as was with BT!

So EE its not just a few users having issues!

Hi Everyone,

So it looks like EE versus the little people as no one else has the problem !

My I phone 11 goes from 100% to 50% at best, sometimes 100% to 15% overnight.

Network status at best is 2 bars but EE tech help states -as long as you can see a bar everything is OK !

Also find phone often reports you are not connected to the internet (even though phone has not been moved)

My wife I phone 15 has no issues with battery drain as far as we can tell but suffers with very poor signal.

None of this happened before we moved from Plusnet (always had full signal, had no disconnects & I phone15 had no lock ups!)

My apologies to some of the people on this forum as they must think I have just copied their text (I have not), so EE  do something & from my experience take a lesson from Plusnet who when faced with a  problem they sort it straight away.

I am going to give EE one more try to sort this but at least I can jump ship if needed as I have a monthly contract ,so commiserations to those who are committed to longer contracts.

Thank you for the advice to try a gift gaff sim

@Mazdamech   Have you tried factory resetting your device and setting up as new ?      If the network was causing this issue why doesn’t it happen to all iPhones on EE ?    If your device says searching on it it will cause a battery drain as the device is searching for a signal to connect to.          The best place to start is will a full factory reset and putting the device in to DFU mode and using a PC/Mac to install a fresh OS on the device.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Hi,The Game Plan

Have deleted all excess apps on phone & refreshed network settings.

I have dug out a I phone 8 & charged  battery to 100% (note the I phone 8 does not contain SIM card) so in that state overnight drain is 2%

My I phone11 drained 52% last night while not in use by me so I will put SIM card from I phone 11 into I phone 8 & see if that drains (I phone 8 has had factory reset & all excess apps removed leaving very few apps to wok in background).

As noted in previous post signal strength is extremely poor compared to what we had with Plusnet even though we should be in a area of good coverage according to EE coverage checker & according to Plusnet our signal strength should have gone from 70% with them to 100% with you ?

Will report back in a few days with results,I have also pasted below details from Apple about excess drainage.

No Cell Coverage and Low Signal. This indicates either that you are in a poor cell coverage area and your iOS device is searching for a better signal or that you’ve used your device in low-signal conditions, which has affected your battery life.

  • You can optimize your battery life by turning on Airplane mode. Open Control Center and tap the Airplane mode icon. Note that you cannot make or receive calls while in Airplane mode.

Hi Lucia
Thank you, but that wasn't the question, and this is not the solution.
In my case, and I suspect others, it was caused by a fault with the EE
network in my area. This persisted for a long time, and several EE users in
my area were affected. This has now been fixed and battery drain is no
longer such a problem in this area, whatever the settings you choose on the
phone.

I lost faith with the various EE fan boy replies here that insisted that the fault lay with the phone and not EE.  None of the “reset to factory” or “download this software” was pertinent or helpful. Even EE said they couldn’t help, suggesting the phone was the source of the problem. Yet a GifGaf sim solved the battery drain issue immediately. The only variable was EE and it became apparent that they were the root cause because, after several messages to say that works were being undertaken in my area, the battery drain issue had now been resolved. So, well done all the idiot fan boys for your misguided ‘advice’ and well done to see for never admitting they were the cause of the problem or for advising customers that they had fixed it!
