eSIM QR Code not working

Rovi

So I just upgraded my monthly contract to a SIM Only plan and bought a Pixel 6 unlocked directly from Google.

On receipt of the new phone, I've deleted the eSIM from my existing phone (pixel 4) then ordered a replacement online through my EE (digital).

When scanning the QR code on the pixel 6, it says its invalid.

I then tried to scan it on my Pixel 4 to get service back, but its also invalid there too.

Now I have no Service so can't contact customer support.

How can I resolve this? and also, why is your website giving out non-working QR codes.

Also I tried several times, and never clicked the option to say I confirm I've downloaded it. I expect not to get charged 3 times for the faulty QR codes...

What a mess. I got mine to work by using Google lens to recognise the QR code from EE.  That code can be entered manually into the QR code scan screen on your phone, via the "Need help?" link.

But what is important is that you have to delete text from the QR code provided by EE at the start and the end.  The right data starts "1$sm" and ends before the two "$$" at the end.  You have to delete text at the start, so the first digits become "1$sm", AND delete the two "$$". Then it will work when entered manually.

Thanks so much for the posts above that explained all this

I wanted to say a big thank you for sorting this out for me. I had the exact same issue on my Pixel 6 Pro as many others have described on this thread. EE Customer Service was confused and not at all helpful - thankfully I managed to find this thread and manually setup my eSIM - all working fine. Big thank you!

Thanks, It worked!

I've just read this, and tried it, and it is EXACTLY correct.

If I use a QR Reader to show the code in character format, I can manually enter this into my Pixel 6 Pro, omitting the extra two $$ characters at the end (and missing off anything before the 1$xxxxx at the beginning), and it works and adds the eSIM.

EE, why haven't you done anything to fix this GLARING issue?

(note, I spotted that my Samsung would read the QR code fine, so as you say, it's Google being strict on compliance here - but the fault is still that of EE for generating non compliant QR Codes!)

Thank you! worked for me too, copied the whole code minus the $$ at the end

Thank you flibblesan84 - you're a star!

Just spent the whole morning trying to sort this - including ONE hour with EE tech support!

Hey EE - if you're not able to fix generating proper codes, could you at least train your support people so they can recognize this problem?!

@lukegb Perfect! Your solution fixed it me for me. Nice one

@lukegb Worked a treat, life saver, i've put in a complaint to EE for the fact it's been 6 months and they still haven't done anything about this. Support just seems to resort to "we'll send you an eSIM" completely defeating the point and doesn't help anyway!
