I'm a new EE customer joining 6 weeks ago. I bought a new Samsung A25 phone, got a new EE Sim which I inserted and set my phone up but did not make any calls or send texts until my own number had been transferred from my old network supplier. Everything has worked fine for a few weeks until yesterday. I was at home using WiFi calling and I sent a text to my sister. Nothing unusual at my end but my sister says she nearly didn't respond as my text originated from an unknown number (the original EE sim number) and not my correct phone number. I would like to know how this has come about, but more importantly how do I correct or get it corrected? It is still happening today, so it's not a one off incident and if I ring her (also using WiFi calling) rather than text the originating number is my proper phone number.

Thanks - with a couple of minor tweaks, your advice here fixed this problem for me:-

Thanks for this particular set of instructions. I had these problems today after porting my number to EE. SMS and WhatsApp. It wouldn't work until I did the last step of uninstalling updates from messages app. Reinstalled updates from Playstore as Honor phone doesn't let you do it from messages app. What'sapp settings had to log out of old phone and delete temporary number in settings. Lost chat history as I should have moved them across first. Thank you to PBAB for raising issue.

This happened to my S23 when I moved from 02 to EE.
I deleted the Google Message App, reinstalled it, and it asked me to verify my number. Job done and it's working as it should.
You do not lose all your messages either, all mine were reinstated, which is kind of worrying 🤔.
Hope this helps 🙏
