Phone number in About Phone is different to actual one

I’ve had my current Android phone for five years. Back then my contract was part of my BT account. Because I needed a new SIM card when it arrived the number shown in About Phone has remained different to my actual number.

I’m buying a new Apple phone soon and would really like the correct number to appear in it.

Can this be done remotely by EE or does it need them to send a new SIM card?

@RayProud   If you put your EE sim in the iPhone it’ll show correct.      The number is settings on any phone is taken from the sim that’s first put in the device before your number is ported.  There are a few tricks to get it to show correct though.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

The number shown on my phone under Settings -  About Phone is not my number. It’s the same as the one shown on my EE Profile. See photo.

That is not my phone number. What I want EE to do is correct that number. I can’t do it because the process sends a confirmation text to that number. So I’m stuck.

@Chris_B , I think i understand what you mean. Because another SIM card was inserted before mine that number is stored on my profile and appears on my phone.

But when I get my iPhone there won’t have been another SIM card in it before mine so all should be well. Yes?

@RayProud     Are you 100% sure you are login to the correct account ?   Have you spoken to customer support about this ?    The number on your account is the number on this sim but something is a miss.

@Chris_B , positive I have only the one EE account. I’ll talk to CS on Monday. Thanks.

That's just your Contact no. in your Profile in your EE a/c; not the contract no. you're being billed for. It is probably the temp. no you had before you ported in. If you can't edit it yourself you'll need to call CS to change that Contact no., not the About Phone no. on your phone.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

If EE call that number they’ll never get a reply. My phone number is not shown on my bill. So it appears nowhere.

All the more reason to get this sorted before I get a new phone. I suspect the number shown in the phone comes from my EE account, not the SIM card.

Should know tomorrow.

I’ve just got off the phone with EE and because of problems they can’t access their systems. They said they’ll call back as soon as they’re available and correct my number.

I’ve just opened the box my Motorola came in. Inside is a SIM card. Guess what the number is on it? Yes, the one shown in About Phone!!!

So why when it’s been removed and replaced by one with my correct number does it still show the old one? Rebooting phone makes no difference.

Cuz the phone remembers the no. of the very 1st SIM placed in it & it can't be changed.
