New sim not activating

New sim fitted to mobile. Logged into account online through pc. Entered mobile ,received  code, inserted code, entered serial number and pressed activate. Received message there is a problem.

I'm sorry you've had a problem activating your new SIM. Is the old SIM still working at the moment?

The previous sim was a pay as you go from Asda which is now expired.

If this is a brand new SIM with us, it shouldn't need activated with a code. Is it pay as you go with us as well?

The new sim is a 24 month unlimited contract.
