Using my phone in spain to swipe and pay

I'm going to Spain and prefer to use my phone for contact less payment  I'd be using my phone to pay maybe 3 or 4 times a day to pay. I'm wondering whether to buy a roaming bolt on for 7 days at £15, or pay data charge. I'm not sure how much data you use when using the phone to swipe and pay?

Hi @Slowhand

You usually don't need an active data connection for your phone to make contactless payments using apps like Google Pay or Apple Pay. These apps use NFC technology, which allows for close range wireless communication (contactless) without needing an internet connection.

You only need an internet connection for initial card registration and activation of the cards to your phone.
After that, your phone contactless wallet will update each time you connect to the internet if you have Wi-Fi elsewhere.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for you prompt and informative reply. I didn't realise, or I'd forgotten, about NFC. That's great for us.

Thanks again
