How can I locate an unused PAYG SIM starting with the numbers '07930'?

(North London based) I recently lost a PAYG number of over 10yrs due to EE's hibernation rules, I turned my business phone off for maternity leave. Turned it on 6 months later and boom the number was snatched away from *mini violins*, anyway I am keen to locate a new number beginning with 07930 however EE's Twitter team and call centre have not been very helpful with this. I have also started the momentous task of going to store to store in hope of finding such a number but store staff find this tedious on their part and quite frankly so do I with a baby in tow. How do I get EE to locate and send me a new PAYG SIM starting with 07930? I believe this is an easy task for them but for some reason I can't get the help. My reasons are nostalgic and help the loss of the previous number I had.

Hi @SnowBlack

EE are not able to choose a specific number for your new sim.

Sometimes people sell ‘Gold Numbers’ on eBay, and there are a few on there if you want it to start with that specific sequence, and the bonus is that most of these numbers are for sale because they have a memorable sequence, such as repeating digits.

Most of these packs will come as a PAYG SIM card which needs activating. Once activated you can either use as-is on PAYG or text SWITCH to 150 to choose a pay monthly plan.

Thanks,

Alex

@SnowBlack , if the sim card has not been used for over six months, then the number would have been recycled and will not be available. You can always get a new SIM card with a new number, you cannot pick and choose, you will get one with a new number, it is not possible.

You can either order one online or go to your nearest store and get a new SIM card.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using Skype or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

Thanks I think the wording of my question was slightly confusing. After speaking with EE they confirmed it’s non-billable usage for 9 months which allows them to disconnect the line and the number will remain in hibernation for a year and then recycled. My gripe is that I was 6 months without use not 9. EE can  offer you upto 8 recycled numbers for a fee.  I want an recycled number starting with 07930 not to choose the entire phone number. So indeed I can choose but it will be like finding a needle in a haystack, let the search begin! I may take the previous persons advice and get a golden number who knows.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the obsession with the 07930 Prefix (original owned by T Mobile UK) ?, even in Alpha Dial, which is not used anymore you do not get any Alpha Names.

Mobile Telephone Prefixes and the Following Mobile Numbers are not owned by the Mobile Networks, they are leased to them in batches by Ofcom, who reserve the right to claw them back with reasonable notice or if they are long term dormant.

I want to retain this number because it’s all I’ve ever had since first owning a phone for over 30yrs. In a world of chaos it’s my constant. EBay Golden numbers seems to have what I want so I’ll go that route.

Just today I bought a pay as you go SIM card from the EE store in Angel, Islington, LONDON and the number began 07930. Perhaps they have a batch of them in the store?
