Somebody's in for the high jump - 5 day data perk

So, as I usually do, I received a text offering me either 3 or 5 days unlimited everything for £3 or £5 respectively. I've taken this offer up many times in the past as its a bargain.

Anyhoo, I received the text with the offer from 1120. Remember this number! The reasons for doing so shall become clear later on. Previously, the offer was sent from numbers such as 1115, 1117 and good old 1119. For the offer to be added to your account, you reply to the number with one of two texts; "YES" for the 3 day offer or "FIVE" for the 5 day offer. So I replied with "Five". I then waited for a reply. And waited. Nothing. So I texted 1120 again. The message was delivered. Still no response. "That's odd" I thought. I tried another 15 or so times, still the same. Just for luck, I texted 1115, 1117 and 1119 and although I received a reply from these numbers, they were only to tell me that I more or less had text the wrong number.

So, I thought "Why not ring the number and see what it says?". I dialled 1120. Imagine how mortified I felt to be answered with the words "Emergency, which service do you require?".

All this time, I've been sending texts to 112. Never mind 1120, a mobile will always connect to 112 no matter what comes after that. It's how it works.

I imagine 112/999 have been hammered with this because of this booboo!

Who at EE thought to send a text from 1120, not realising that replied would go to 112?

And I still never got the 5 day perk.

That 112 is for calls when it makes a connection as soon as you've dialled a valid phone number. Texts don't work like that cuz you're not dialling digit at a time. It uses the complete number you put in the recipient box, 1120 in this case.

Hi @BenBrownBoy

Could you add a screenshot of the message you have received?

Did you get a reply when you sent the message?

Leanne.

@BenBrownBoy is confused between dialling a call & sending a text. Dialling "1120" does indeed get you to Emergency Services (112) but texting "1120" doesn't.

I did not receive a reply, no.

Thanks @BenBrownBoy

If you give us a call on 150, the team can look into the offer and help you get this activated 🙂
