WiFi Calling not working - is EE blocking this ?

WiFi calling does not work for me, despite being enabled on my iPhone.

I live in an area where the moble signal is weak to non-existent - so this is incredibly frustrating when (faux)-2FA ID is required for many transactions.

[Contract is for SIM only.]

EE why is WiFi calling not enabled ?

OK, finally, issue solved (yesterday afternoon). 😀

I would like to thank in particular, Christopher_GMartin_Sm and Danni # for all their help in resolving this.

[# I hope I spelt your name correctly Danni. 😊]

And for what it's worth, I have just tested this at home to confirm it's operational in WiFi calling mode, (ironically right now I can just get a weak phone signal on the EE network - but for test purposes I used the manual network selection and selected another provider to effectively turn off mobile (cellular) on my iPhone for the purposes of the test).

This time I could make test calls (confirming it is now indeed routing over WiFi), before re-enabling EE and Auto Network selection afterwards.

So what was the issue then ?

Turns out, we were all sort of on the right track, almost from my opening comments & the post title.  Basically the calling plan I was on, did not support WiFi calling.

Having given Christopher more details (by PM), he handed this over to his colleague Martin, to look into.  Martin called me later on my work landline, to explain the issue was the plan I was on (as an ex-Orange plan) did not support WiFi calling.  Then he spoke to his colleague Danni in contracts to work out the best (proper) EE plan to switch me over to get WiFi Calling but keeping the plan costs similar 'ish.  Danni then took me through the plan change initiated by a SMS message to switch over to the new contract - all on the same (landline call) initiated by MartinGreat service everyone, thanks again.

For the benefit of anyone else, who may have experienced similar issues, my iPhone is now showing "EE WiFiCall" on the top LHS of the screen, as the network provider.

Thanks again all - issue resolved.

@AlanD5  EE isn’t blocking it from working.    Have you tried restarting the router?  Have you tried restarting your device?  Have you tried putting your device into airplane mode for a few seconds?  Is the firewall on your router set to high ? What firmware are you running on the device?

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.
Yes, tried the Airplane Mode workarouind that I read on a previous post - makes no difference.
Running iOS 15.5 on iPhone8, regularly re-booted likewise the router.

Hi @AlanD5

Welcome to the community.

It may be worth speaking to our technical support team to make sure everything is set up from our side.

WiFi-calling isn't a function that needs to be enabled, it is active by defaut,

Is this a problem on multiple WiFi-hotspots, or only one specific router? That's a good test of whether it's a problem with your home broadband/router, or your phone.

Having spoken to (EE) Tech Support following this reply to my initial post, apparently the problem is my SIM which I'm told is 3G.  EE are sending me a 4G SIM to replace this, that should hopefully resolve the issue.

Fingers crossed 🤞 - let's see what happens . 😊

EE SIMs aren't 3G or 4G specific, they're just EE SIMs.There may be a diagnosed fault with it, or you may be on an old Orange/T-Mobile plan potentially.

Interesting comment on SIMs 3G/4G - I just reported here what EE Tech Support told me. ... 😀

However, you may have put your finger on it.  Yes, I was (and have been a long standing) Orange customer.  So this may be the real issue.

Anyway let's see what happens in a couple of days time when the new SIM shows up. 😊

Indeed so.Text NUMBER to 150 and it will tell you whether you're on a current EE, or legacy OUK/TMUK plan.

So, here is the next update.

The SIM arrived yesterday - very quick service - excellent.

Took SIM to work, fitted it OK, turned the phone back on, tried a test phone call (good reception at work).  All fine no problems (voice call), noticed a message a few mins later something along the lines of New SIM activated all seemed good so far.

Back at home a few mins ago, decided to try it (still no moble signal at all), and guess what ?

Doesn't work. ...

Tried the Airplane Mode On / Off workaround again, tried turning Mobile Data Off & On again, and the result - still no WiFi calls.  Tried another reboot on the iPhone, (as if this hadn't been enough after fitting the SIM).  I then got a message about iMessage, so went and found that in the menu, (was on), turned it off, waited a few seconds, turned it back on again.  Now beneath it I have a message saying:

"Waiting for activation. ..."

With no mobile signal currently, somehow I can't see this happening soon.

Starting to run out of both time and patience now.  🤬🤬

Why doesn't this stuff work like What'sApp, MS Teams, Messenger, Zoom, etc.
