This is a perennial problem for many people receiving increasing numbers of unsolicited 0843 calls.
These 0843 numbers can be blocked individually but organised scammers have hundred of these numbers so just call again using a different 0843 number.
Why does EE not allow the prefix 0843 to be blocked?
Surely it is not that much of a technical conundrum?

@Harriet37 Never get spam calls and I do mean never. Just to point out 0843 numbers are not always used for a spam/scam calls. So you want EE to block legitimate numbers also. Where do I start with the legality of that.

I do not want EE to block 0843 numbers. I want EE TO GIVE CUSTOMERS THE CHOICE TO DO THIS IF THEY CHOOSE.

@Harriet37 EE can’t block someone from calling you regardless of the number they use or give you that option.
You do however have an option on your device to block unknown callers from calling you. Only callers in your phone book will be able to call you.

Yes I am aware of that but a universal ban on unknown numbers means if the hospital or doctor or someone who is not in my address book calls that will also be blocked. I have had a dozen calls this week from 0843 numbers and all scams. Searched numbers on website ‘who called me’ and all negative reviewed.
Telephone companies and organisations know this goes on. TPS registration does not help. We get people into space but stopping 0843 scams seem beyond these companies! It’s a choice.

Hi @Harriet37
Our Online Security: Avoid and Prevent Scams, Help page has ways to report any scam calls, so these can be looked into.

And then we'll do absolutely nothing to block these numbers because EE in reality do not care about customers and are probably making money from these scam calls.

It should obviously be the user’s choice to enable blocking or not. Also as an organisation choosing to use one of these 0843 numbers you should be aware that the public probably won’t want to receive calls from them and that’s the choice that they make.
Talking about legality I strongly question the ethics and legality of most of the organisations who are using these numbers to scam and harass unsuspecting people and I truly believe that users should have full control of exactly what kind of numbers they choose to receive calls from and those that they don’t.

Yet they can block you from dialing international numbers if the choose to, they can block you from calling premium numbers if they wish. It seems to me that if there is a financial impact on EE they can block whatever they like however if the financial impact is on the user then all of a sudden it’s not technically possible !! Where are you getting your information from about the technical abilities of the system ?

@Joburgtaxi So if you don’t know the number you don’t answer it and then you look up the number online.

Blocking outgoing calls to particular destinations is technically different from blocking incoming calls from specified number ranges.
