Did you mean:

people cant hear me I sound liek a dalek / underwater

I appear to be plagued with a similar issue to a lot of people from what I can see on this forum.

When I make or receive a call people can’t hear me, they say Im underwater and sound like a dalek.

Sometimes the call starts fine and then develops the issue a minute or so in to the call.

This is a new issue probably started 3-6 months ago.

I would say its limited to me being at home. So I think its coverage or at least the voice part of coverage as I have a 4G signal on the phone

When I test coverage o the web site its always fine.

Ive now spent a great deal of Effort, Time and Money on the issue to no resolution.

The problem appeared to only be affecting me and not my partner who has had an EE sim for years.

I was on a BT sim, and they kindly migrated me to a EE sim – same issue

I read that Motorola G22 can develop a microphone fault, so I migrated to a Motorola G8 power, - same issue

My partner recently went to EE and got an upgrade to a new handset a Galaxy S22 first call she received at home the caller couldn’t hear her.

We have lived in this house for 5 years the issue is a new one.

No technology has changed in the house In that time as in routers,

I have broadband from Sky

If I go to the upstairs front window, It can be better people can now hear me.

I've tried turning voLTE on and off it’s the same.

I've tried using a Bluetooth headset (To eliminate the phones microphone) and still I’m told I sound like a dalek.

I’m not a fan of Wi-Fi calling I prefer to use my Wi-Fi to talk to all my other devices, that are streaming, downloading etc

I've tried WhatsApp’s calling I can’t conclusive say it’s a cure, but then not everyone I call is on that platform.

But I reiterate my previous statement it’s a new issue and has been fine the last 4 and ½ years

There are a lot of similar issues on this forum which have no sensible resolutions. A lot are recent.

The use of the word Dalek is particularly common.

I’ve change SIM, I’ve change handset, so OS has changed, all are updated OS and apps, phone has been rebooted several times, Voice can be fine sometimes.

I’m a 30 year plus IT consultant and This number of issues makes me think the issue is more common than it might appear and I would like someone probably a communications engineer to really explain it as I think its something deep in the way voice calls work. and no amount of blaming the consumer, caller or receiver is going to fix this.

@Nashers  When you changed over to the new device did you transfer everything over from the old device?    If you did have you tried factory resetting the new device and setting it up from scratch?

You mention no difference with VoLTE being disabled. This would suggest your calls are potentially being carried over 2G, and be consistent with some of what you report.

Enabling WiFi-calling would be a good part of eliminating this - both VoLTE & VoWiFi use the same network-core and voice codecs.
