Hi. PAYG 4g mobile - suddenly lost capability for voice calls from home, and from on our street near our home. Messaging only. This is new, sudden, happening. Both messaging and voice calls work fine from up the road, all around the neighbourhood. This is in London W1K. One of us is with Vodaphone, not having any problems. Just the 4g EE phones. Checking EE coverage online, no problems listed anywhere. Does anyone have any idea what might have happened?

Yes, sorry, Vodafone!

4G is EE's base coverage layer, and there are some contractual obligations that don't apply to 5G. There is thus no intentional removal of 4G coverage unless individual radio sites need to be decomissioned for legal reasons - when this happens, all radio technologies are equally removed. 2G, 4G & any 5G.
The easy way to test for 4G-voice is to test mobile data whilst on a call. If this works, you're either using VoLTE (4G-voice) or VoNR (5G-SA voice). 2G-voice doesn't support HD-calling, nor data-on-a-call.
I've provided a weblink for you to check local faults - https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile-coverage-checker follow "check status"

Thanks for the link and the info. The coverage is excellent, it says, indoor and out. Yet no voice calls are possible indoors or on our street. I tried EE tech support again. This time they shared the fact that for a couple of weeks EE have been working on faults on the two closest masts to us, to do with 5G issues but fixing one is impacting on the 4G service as well while they work on it.
