5g vs 4g speeds

So I am sitting at work and I have 5g available in this location super signal. My phone switches between 5g and 4g so I ran a speed test. When it shows 4g I get download speeds in excess of 115mps yet when it shows 5g it can't get above 30mps. I find that a bit strange.  I also have a payg ee phone with a 5g sim in a 5g phone in the same location it only manages to get a 4g+ symbol I was told payg does get 5g.

Hi @kcurrie65,

5G speeds will vary depending on a number of factors, including your distance from the mast site etc.

5G isn't currently available with pay as you go plans.

We are a small town there is only one mast so the 5g and 4g will be the same distance from me. So that's what makes me more confused

My mistake re payg I thought they were doing 5g now.

This presume that 4G & 5G are both being served from this site. Not all sites are 5G-equipped.

Without knowing specifics, it's also possible that you are getting one tech from a low-band carrier, and another tech from high-band, which have different coverage characteristics.

Purely on your symptoms, you could only have a single low-band 5G700 carrier but several high-band 4G carriers on the same site.

Further to this issue. I went to Edinburgh yesterday. Several speed tests nothing below 120mbs one at 180mbs. So from that you could beleive the adverts for best 5g and possibly could land an aircraft. But it shows that rural areas outwith a city do not get the same level of service.

Point 2. I bought a different payg sim from voxi after my mistake thinking ee payg did 5g. Voxi do 5g payg and in Edinburgh it was 0ver 300mbs. Just for the record. If the powers that be read these EE are missing a trick not offering 5g on payg
