I am within my 45 day “upgrade window” but I want to try and go onto a sim only deal but am being told I can only do this from when my contract actually ends in 45 days, is this correct?

Yes, if you are "upgrading" from a phone plan to a SIM-Only plan. You have to see out the phone contract until its min term.

Just to clarify, I’ve been told I can give them notice to downgrade within the 45day window but any saving/plan change will not take effect (financially as plan to keep same data/usage) until my original contract ends in 45days time. Unlike an “upgrade” which happens almost instantly.
