Can I downgrade to a cheaper contract?

I am currently living abroad but would like to keep my phone contract active for when I return to the UK. However, I would like to downgrade my monthly payments as I will not be using any of the data or calls, etc. Is this possible?

@ciellevaughan  Sorry that’s not possible.  The contract you agreed too was for that price.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Has your min. term run out yet? If so, you could "downgrade" to PAYG by giving 30 days notice.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

However, the OP here mentioned they are currently living abroad.

If you convert from PAYM>PAYG whilst abroad, the SIM will become deactivated until used again on EE's UK network.

Changing to a pay-monthly SIM-only plan would be the next best thing.

I'm in the same situation as the OP. I'm on a rolling monthly contract but only ever need it to receive the occasional text message, etc. How would you actually go about making the downgrade? I couldn't actually find anything on their website that indicates it's even possible to do this.

I don't care too much if it becomes deactivated until it's used for the first time in the UK, since I still come back to the UK regularly.

Hi @dgreen81.

Welcome to the community.

You would upgrade to a SIM only plan that is cheaper than your current contract.

You should be able to do this online or over the phone.
