According to the citizens advice they say the following
“Your provider has to give you 30 days’ notice if they’re putting up the price of your contract. You have the legal right to cancel the contract within those 30 days without having to pay a fee. Contact the company and say you’re cancelling within the allowed 30 days’ notice of a price increase.”
Any legal people here can let me know if this means I can cancel my sim only contract?
thanks for your help 🙂

@JckS 2016. When flagship phones didn’t cost £1000+ for the entry level storage size.
2016 iPhone 7 released cost of entry level 32Gb devices was £599. iPhone 7 Plus 32Gb £719.
2023 iPhone 14 pro 128 Gb £1099, iPhone 14 pro max £1199.
Don’t blame the network for the cost of flagship devices that’s the manufacturer and EE are not going to subside that cost for you like networks used to, you’ll pay for the cost of the device so that’s what the costs/tariffs are now so much more.

I also found the same information on the Citizens Advice website after deciding I want to cancel my contract. I upgraded in December but since then I have had nothing but problems and the customer service has been terrible. This price increase is just the last straw. My contract is going up by £9 a month! After doing some more research, the Which? website states that you can cancel your contract if the price increase is more than the RPI, but EE are now using CPI so I’m not sure if this makes a difference. Regardless, they’re adding 3.9% on top of the CPI so I think that might be our way out of our contracts

What a complete load of rubbish they don't help at all just up thereself I have contacted them and spoke with a manger who had the attitude of I don't care not his problem and told me the only way to get help is to stop paying my bills to prove that I a disabled person on benefits who I and my wife doesn't eat 4 times a week because we can't afford to and sit in the dark at least 5 days because I can't afford the electric but according to EE I am not in financial hardship that how EE deal with this tell me to stop paying to get in debt

They have told me I would have to pay over £1000 to cancel my contract. When I contacted them and explained I don’t have the means to pay as I have had a loss of income, they basically told me they can’t do anything until I fall into arrears and then they will look at reducing my bill. So they want me to wait until I get into debt and put a mark on my credit rating before they will help. I have filed an official complaint with the ombudsman

Yea go to upgrades and it should say when the contract started and when it expires. I suggest you get on a new provider asap. Preferably one with a 1 month term.

@Mc992 You do know it’s not just EE who have increased costs. Perhaps not and in fact one network has increased it more than 14.4%. perhaps you should look on other network forums and see their customers complaining about this price increase as it’s not just EE. It makes my laugh how current EE customers think it’s just EE and they think they’ll get less of an increase with a different network. They all increase costs about the same at this time of year. ( CPI + 3.9%)
