Xbox Series S keeps dropping from Ethernet on 2022 EE Smart Router (NAS too)

Hi,

I've recently took delivery of the 2022 white EE Smart Router (one with a little circle in the middle and 4 ethernet ports on the back), firmware version from 2022. Previously, had a much older EE router in black from around 2017.

All four ports on the old router where occupied, the Xbox, in port 1.

Within the port forwarding config there are no entries for the old router.

Today, I've set up the new router, and plugged in all devices to the same port numbers as before, when looking within the port forwarding area of the hub, this time it's auto generated a greyed out row for the Xbox for ports 3074, which does appear to be something that might need to happen according to Microsoft

However, after restarting the Xbox, unplugging/replugging in the Ethernet the network will come up, and then every few seconds disconnect and then re-connect.

Whilst the network is up, the NAT type shows as Open, I'm observing the downtime by looking in the Xbox network settings and also in the EE's wifi network map, which for Port 1 changes from 1 to 0 and then back to 1.

I've tried manually adding all of the other port numbers as per Microsoft's recommendations, also tried clearing the MAC address cache, additionally tried changing from port 3074 to the next one in the list. Also tried a different port

None of these creates a reliable internet connection on the Xbox.

Additionally, on the previous hub from 2017, Port 4 which is labelled in red on the router as WAN, is where my Synology NAS was plugged in, which worked fine.

That same port on the new router from 2022 today shows as WAN in the wifi map in the router rather than a port, and it won't let me click it, looks like it doesn't operate as an actual ethernet port but rather as WAN exclusivity?

What am I missing to create reliable ethernet for the Xbox here!

Why not continue using the original black Smart Hub?

Hi @bluedog916,

Welcome to the Community!

We don't want you to have any trouble linking your Xbox to your router, so I'd recommend speaking with our team if you're still having issues, and they can take a look into this.

Because of how old it is, was advised that the 20 devices connected to it is too many and that it's showing lots of errors. I myself have worked in web dev for 10 years and found this to be a little confusing, 20 devices even for a router from 2015 shouldn't be too much of a problem?

Also not sure why the new router doesn't allow me to use port 4 (WAN) for my Synology

No, it shouldn't! I'm still using an even older but reliable EE router but I don't have 20 connected devices.

Okay, weirdly, when I ping my Xbox IP from my PC, both plugged in via ethernet, the IP of the Xbox keeps changing to the IP of my PC?

IP 192.168.1.131 is the Xbox, and *.221 is the PC, but the terminal output here is from me running `ping -t 192.168.1.131`. This could be why the Xbox is dropping. Why does the smart router despite me setting "Always use this IP" switch?

@bluedog916 Where are you setting your fixed IP, you only need to do it on the EE Router for the connection! And ensure that the you see these settings with the IP that you wish to have fixed to your Xbox controller. This is the Smarthub+ so hopefully similar on your EE Model.

Address assignment: Static

Always use this IP address: YES

I'm not setting a fixed IP, the router is meant to be setting it but it's oddly changing, here's some more detail:

- Ethernet Port 1: Xbox, "Always use this IP" turned on, ip: 192.168.1.131

- Ethernet Port 2: PC, "Always use this IP" turned on, ip: 192.168.1.221

But when I ping the Xbox "131" from my PC, like the screenshot above, the IP is changing, and the connection is dropping during the change. The IP shouldn't ever change.

@bluedog916 Looks like the X-box is struggling with the DHCP server on the EE Router, Can you use the fixed IP also by setting on the x-box to 192.168.1.131, not a gamer so no nothing about that device.

The setting "Always use this IP" is already turned on - still changing
