Hi all,
Got "upgraded" to full fibre last week, engineer installed the ONT in my hallway. He didn't explain what the ONT was so I didn't question the location at this point - I had no idea it was going to have to be ethernet-cabled into the back of my router, which is in my office on the first floor.
I understood from reading the internet that you could have the ONT relocated by Openreach for a fee, but when I rang EE to arrange this I got a flat refusal, not a service they offer etc.
Has anyone else been able to relocate their ONT? I'm reluctant to wire the house with ethernet or go to other messier solutions until I find out the real answer!

Hi @mbalax.
Welcome to the EE Community 😊
When Full Fibre is installed, the engineer should absolutely be asking you where you want to place your Hub etc and factor this in to the install.
It can't always be guaranteed that your preferred location, but they should definitely work with you to find the best solution.
When you contacted us about this, did you mention the fact this was installed without any consultation?

@mbalax without know the layout of your property it is hard to say what is possible. It really is up to you to agree where the ONT goes when Openreach come to install it. And doing your homework beforehand is advised.
Have you considered just getting a Smart Wi-Fi extender? That is likley to give you a lot more flexibility and speeds around the property.

I know this is an old post but same
engineer did not explain, just asked where we wanted him to drill the hole to connect the router from outside...
if he had, I would have told him to drill the hole where it is atm, but the box that the router connects to further into the house, where the old telephone socket is and router was placed, instead it is near the front door front of house.
the hole in the wall that the full fibre box connects to is next to the box that the router connects to
speed is great if I am sat on the couch near the router...
right next to router speed is 1657 Mbps download, without the extender, speed to the router is around 200Mbps, with the extender, thankfully it is faster between 500-600Mpbs
tbh, speed is fine, but was wondering if I could buy a longer cat6 cable?

Cable length no issue I think, 100m or so before any degradation!

@chris16228 As @mbalax say's longer cable is the way to go, move the Hub to the position that you think is best, then test with JUST the hub and ALL the extenders off and see how it all goes for the speed test's you need.....
If not covering all areas then you can add the Extenders as you need them in the positions required.
