WiFi Enhancer

Hello I got hooked up with EE broadband yesterday & i also payed for  the WiFi enhancer and I get to stage 3 where it attempts to lower the ping  and my internet seems to drop while its attempting to do so, I did this because everytime I’m on my console everyone in the household’s connection buffers which led to me getting this add on. However I have contacted customer service yesterday and got advised to wait later during that day or try again tomorrow however I kept running into this same issue after every attempt. I contacted customer service today regarding it & I didn’t get the best solution so I’m attempting to try here to see if anyone would be able to assist as I have 14 days to decide if it’s the best option for me or not and as of now it’s been an nightmare as I don’t know what could be causing this.

If they locked down the router then why advertise this WiFi enhancer which is an extra £2 a month as an add on  and won’t even let you activate it then it fails at stage 3 and drops out your whole internet connection when the whole purpose of it is to help prevent other people hogging up the WiFi so others can have a seamless experience This makes absolutely no sense and if that’s the case that’s false advertising in my opinion.

@Jay_Konan18 Take it that you are no further forward with getting the issue sorted?

I just got EE broadband and the WiFi enhancer yesterday and am having exactly the same issue. Do EE staff monitor these threads? as it would be great to have some feedback on this before I cancel the option.

Hello,

I got it to work.

I moved from BT to EE and had WiFi enhancer added to my account.

I got the WiFi 6 router smart plus.

I had two to three attempts. Then it worked. I’m on latest version of iOS. I fully closed the app, then reopen it and that seems to fix it. So if you’re on android, try closing your app - like force close and then reopen it?

If you can’t do it when everyone’s awake try doing when your household are asleep like 11pm-12am-1am.

I did re do a week later but at night and it was more responsive.

The ping optimiser sometimes say to me when it’s doing its thing that I will lose connection. Try to sit next to your router or be close to it, that’s how I got it to be good too.

im not a fan of EE app, I hope they improve. BT app was like stable, when accessing anything on the app to do with WiFi enhancer it’s as if the router is in a remote location. If I look at list of devices on my home network, check one out and return to the list it has load it up again, bt app never did that.

After getting it working with ping optimiser, geo filter and game booster/boosting - in battlefield and call of duty (it does seem to improve my connection, with my old bt and before virgin media hub I would die around corner or be like I’m using a water gun) I got two family members who separately love 4k streaming when I’m gaming. And it’s definitely help keep their activities from not affecting mine.

I would try closing your app, re open it and then try again. If no luck, do it when your household it slightly quiet or asleep. I hope it works.

I've been told by the engineer and the phoneline people wifi enhancer only works with fibre to the premises and I only have Fibre to the cabinet

@StephenEdwards1 - not sure why you've been told that because it's not true as far as I know 🤔

@StephenEdwards1 Completely agree with @bobpullen on that one, will certainly work way better on a fttp connection with more headroom to adjust the bandwidth, it is way unfortunate relying on an app to take care off such a delicate function of the Router, but it is what it is....

@JimM11  - I imagine the core benefit of the product would actually be better realised on a lower speed product, where  there's more opportunity for things to get congested (which is where the opportunity for prioritisation/QoS should shine).

@bobpullen 100% agree with you on that, but have seen so many badly QoS routers set up and complete starvation of all others, then complaints abound, can be just a fine balance to get it all right. FTTC on an 80/20 split, go for it certainly well worth the effort.
